I think you’re forgetting how much Depth that team had vanek 23 , Roy 23 , Pominville 24, drew s 21, MacArthur 21 Tim c 25 ,

don't get me wrong, I loved that 05/06 team and was in awe of what they did in 06/07, but that lasted a year and a half before the league changed and that Ferrari got bogged down

I think we’re talking in this present time would you trade our roster today for that roster with the way the NHL is turning back to that style

But before we had an owner that was cheap Things would’ve been way different if we had Terry

I don't think so as their problems during those off seasons were cap-related...the Dumont/kotalik choice was cap-related...mckee left for the big payday but if buffalo would have signed him to $4m it would have altered the roster because of the cap implications

Can’t really disagree with you because that’s when I started watching hockey so I’m guaranteeing you probably know more about the situation lol

I was just assuming that they didn’t want to sign those players

Could have paid for better D depth in Roch instead of Jeff Jillson and whatever else was left.

Nvm, I keep thinking we're talking 05-06

hell no.. budget team.. all GM decisions were profit based. It sucked because they had to let some good players go because of their internal cap the owner gave the GM.

after that fiasco they went out and traded for D depth at the next trade deadline.. but it didn't matter because they couldnt get past ottawa.. their best chance was 05-06 damn jay mckee

from what I recall, they were hard against the cap after the 05/6 season...the briere arb hearing netted him $5m then the Dumont hearing got him $2.9m...with briere in the fold darcy had to make a choice between Dumont and koltalik's $2.3m...

that was all cap-related

It’s cool hearing stories about the situation
I was thinking to this day the team was spending to the cap but didn’t want to pay the star players

So signing Danny and Drury would be considered max contracts in that day ?
