The danger for Ottawa here is that Brady has up to three more years in college, as he was only a freshman last year.
He could very well get nothing but better with three more years at BU, let the three year window expire and have more options after graduating.
If my future was the train wreck that is Ottawa, I see the long term upside of seasoning in college, getting a degree, and getting out from under the team that drafted him as nothing but all good for him. |

Izzy he Hold off signing the ELC and decides to play for BU at least one more year. The question becomes will he ever sign an ELC with the senators… I say he doesn’t and he eventually has his rights traded to guess who???For guess who???
In the immortal words of EK more to come… Stay tuned - howiehockey
Well they're going to have to do something. EK's value isn't as high as the asking price and everyone knows about his injury history and age. They'll have to be creative and unfortunately give up 1st round prospects possibly to make it happen. |

He may never want to sign as long as EM owns the team! Could pull a Lindros! |

A college degree is a fantastic achievement. People assume hockey players don't value it the same way non professional athletes do. The bulk of most adults life is not playing a sport professionally unless your name is Gordie Howe. |

he'll develop better in the NHL than he ever would in the NCAA, and he makes millions of dollars doing it.
no matter how you slice it....development or money......he's better served to play in the NHL. - sensarmy_11
Exactly. If he chooses college then his message is heard loud and clear. |

You're assuming the kid is only thinking about dollar signs. He knows he's going to be a pro NHL player and make his share. Making that now versus continuing what he's started at BU. I think the kid sees the long game.
Plus it's not like he's strapped for cash or anything... |

Again, there is no veracity in your post EK. No source North of the border has mentioned anything like this.
If he stays at BU, it's because he was told by the Sens that they wouldn't have a significant role for him this season.

If Ottawa tells him there's a good chance he'll make the team out of training camp I have a hard time believing he won't sign.
make a million dollars in the NHL, or make nothing in college.......hmmmmm tough choice. - sensarmy_11

please........99% of college athletes don't "earn" their degrees. they spend 85% of their time training or playing, their degrees are just given to them.
I've had lots of friends who've gone to the NCAA for baseball, football and hockey.....they were mostly put into cushy, useless programs, and then given so much leeway in terms of what they needed to do to pass....it was basically, show up last day and write this test, if you spell your name right and don't eat the paper, you get the credit.
they absolutely don't value the degree the same as non-athletes because:
1. they don't need it
2. almost all of them didn't to anything to earn it. |

If he DOES NOT sign and goes back to BU... does Ottawa lose his rights? - Doogs
nope they'll retain his right for 4 years if he remain at BU. |

Good job Ek on the totally misleading title. You made it sound like he was thinking about staying in college for four years and then becoming UFA. |

I dont think Ottawa is a dumpster fire. Whatever issues there were are gone aside from Melnyk. Looking at their roster i feel as if we are all too drawn in by the drama. The team still has:
Duchene
Stone
Dzingal
B.Ryan(still a good player but had injury issues with his hand)
Anderson
Karlsson
On paper Ortawa is not impressive but neither was Vegas. I think they will do better than expected - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Duchene will be gone next season.
Stone will be gone within two seasons.
Anderson is old as (frank). In his day he has had AMAZING seasons and average/poopty seasons.
Karlsson will be gone.
I don't know anything about dzingal.
The sens are crap. |

so based on EKs track record, and the fact that NOBODY else has reported anything like this, I expect the ELC to be signed in the next 24-48 hrs - sensarmy_11
Besides, I think the player can sign his ELC and go to college and his ELC does not kick in.
The only reason to not sign the ELC is if he is considering finishing out his college and becoming UFA and we all know the only reason a player would do that - to play for the Leafs of course! |

Fair enough but 75% of college degrees received by anybody are from cushy useless programs. One of my friends went to uni for 7 years. He's not a doctor - he achieved a 3 year communications degree and he is a bartender(making a good living). |

oh, no doubt. I'm saying that athletes, for the most part, get thrown into super easy programs.....general arts, psych, etc.
I know the average university degree requires a great deal of work.....I know mine certainly did (Economics...ugh) |

once you sign your ELC you are no longer eligible for NCAA. you're a "professional athlete" under contract, you can't go to school.
if he signs his ELC it's either jr or AHL. |
