So homie,
You love probert and similar tough guys.

Tom wilson - no

Sam reinhart- yes

Have you changed your opinion on tough guys?

- Boss34

Look at the Lucic deal two years after in Edmonton. Caps will be begging someone to take Wilson off their hands in 2 years guaranteed. He’s a nice complimentary player who realistically should be in the $3M-$3.5M range not at $5M+

I think Tom Wilson is the kind of tough guy you will see on teams, one that can contribute. He had the perfect playoffs at the perfect time in his career.

So he did get paid, but I think it was a perfect storm that got him paid too much. If the Caps don't win the Cup or go deep in the playoffs, this isn't what he gets paid.

He was a key piece this post season, but I want scorers first, then get a Tom Wilson type player.

- gcomella34

I agree, it was an important post season. Tom got paid based on that and being a 24 year old , heading into the 6 prime years of his career.

I feel like the Sabres have plenty of scorers and play makers now. I'm just worried about protecting them.
Lots of small , non physical guys.

I would run them until they quit. Hope other coaches do not feel the same way.

I hate everything about that night. Drury got knocked out. Biron got his ass kicked by Emery. The fanbase seems to celebrate that fight like it was the greatest thing on earth when, in reality, it was the beginning of the end.

Including the playoffs, Buffalo went 1-4 against Ottawa for the rest of the season.

I don't understand why that's a celebrated memory at all.

- buffalofan19

That rivalry was something else now it’s just meh

Of course, no one is arguing that point.
Some say no need for a Tom wilson...wrong.

Sure, I disagree.

Lucic is a hunch back, slow, older goon

I respect your opinion, because I generally agree with your thoughts.

Everyone always brings up the most extreme case.

Sometimes contracts work out. I see tom Wilson as a big part of the caps for the next 6 years

I wouldn't say he got "run out of town", It seems to me that he made his own bed in that situation.
- macman9

they were fielding offers for him at the deadline last season

before "his heart wasn't in it" they were ready to move on

I was just wondering, who would you rather have on the Sabres? Especially if we are trying to win in the playoffs.

Sam or Tom?

I think this is the first time we’ve ever disagreed to be honest. I like the intangibles that Wilson brings to the team, but in a Salary Cap world you need to make use of every penny you spend (see Pominville and Okposo). I would like to have a Wilson on this team but not at the expense of $5.17M a season.

both

a skunk for the top line

a pest for the second line

if the caps like him, the contract is not bad, again it's not like Wilson is 28 years old

how did you feel about Peca leaving over 500K a year

it's kind of the same story as Wilson brings a lot of things to the Caps that Peca brought to the sabres

I can’t comment on that as I was too young. Tom
Wilson was good in the playoffs but it was Kuznetsov, Ovechkin, and Holtby that won that cup for them not Wilson’s intangibles. If paying a tough guy close to $2M more then what he should be making takes away from adding skill to your organization will it matter how much he brings to the table if your team is getting knocked out of the first round every year ?

Mybe not, others have....and I really dont keep track, unless it was a recent post.
Different players have different ways to provide value...Po ints, while obviously critically import, are not tne only way to provide high value.

Tom Wilson lead tne charge in playing an intensely physical game that took Kucnerov and Stamkos out of he last 3 games of their series...that was equally important to their championship run.

Thats all.

Intangibles are hard to measure.

Well actually, they are measured in $

Tom has intangibles and got paid

I'm not trying to be barbaric, but tough guys that can plot some goals and points will never be extinct.

I wonder sometimes if people watch nhl playoff hockey.
It's a brutal affair

Peca was awesome.
Should have paid him

That hurt, especially the year he sat out.
He could have made a difference.

Agreed that it was Ovie, Kuz and Holtby leading the team and you could add Oshie to that list too. Wilson plays a different role than those guys and is going to get paid less than them too. Be honest though, would you rather have Oshie who is 31 for seven more years at his $5.75 cap hit or Wilson at 24 y/o for six years at $5.17? I would go with Wilson every time. He did have 15 points (all EV) in 21 playoff games which is basically a PPG if you ask Gerbe.
