My comment has nothing to do with him, or with his comments on the tank.

I said you are the worst - and it’s on every issue.

You sound like those crazy people that think September 11 is fake

Let’s say you’re right The management calculated everything to tank ..

- they knew Sam would have 11 points in the first 33 games

- they knew Kyle would struggle and float all year

- they knew ROR would struggle massively in the beginning of the year and then go on a hot streak when Jack Eichel went down

- They knew Ristolainen couldn’t play on the first pair and play more minutes

- they knew Jack Eichel would be injured

- they knew Kane would be The highest scoring winger in the beginning of the year

-They knew Antipin was so good that they couldn’t play him

- they knew Jason Pominville would only score 3 goals the rest of the year

They calculate everything I’m proud of them

- gerbe75pts

You sound like an ignoramus.

What did management do to fix any of these problems once they saw them? Did they bring up talented kids from ROC? Sign free agents? Make a trade?

No. They let the disasters remain disasters.

And don’t say “the played Jack”. You yourself say he “would of” demanded a trade ifvtgry put him in a shelf.

Eichel, Reinhart, erod, okposo, risto
- Pegullaville

I bet that’s a pretty similar list for just about everyone

Some would likely subtract Okposo
Some might keep McCabe

That just shows how much garbage we’ve had the past few years
Saying the “core failed” is ridiculous
Swap out Toews & Pk88 for Eichel & O’Reilly and we still would’ve missed the playoffs

I've always liked McCabe, but it feels like Pilut and Borgen are younger, cheaper replacements soon.

The players didn't tank or lose on purpose

Well one guy "lost his love" for a while

Jbotts assembled a disgusting team full of guys that could not score more goals then the teams they were playing.

Similar to the 2015 mceichel sabres.

How do you not even consider that?

Management absolutely wanted dahlin, they just weren't as brash and stupid about publically announcing it.

- Boss34

It was mostly a Murray roster.

He tried to bolster the D core with Scandella and Beaulieu; even Antipin was Murray's guy.

Other than that, he swapped Ennis and Foligno for Pominville and Pouliot, got Wilson and Nolan.

I think you could argue he made the team better, but they still sucked. I think he probably knew they would suck, but there wasn't a set of moves that could quickly fix it. He had to wait for an implosion before he could justify moving Kane and O'Reilly

Agree completely. Players aside, Housley had his issues too.

A little fun on a mid-summer Sunday.

Apparently, about 5 teams a year qualify for the playoffs that had not qualified the year before.
Below are the teams that failed to do so last season.

Pick your 5 (or 6 if you must) that will do so in 2019

Florida
Carolina
NY Islanders
NY Rangers
Detroit
Montreal
Ottawa
Buffalo

St. Louis
Dallas
Calgary
Edmonton
Chicago
Vancouver
Arizona

St Louis

*i don’t actually think all those teams will make it, but i think they’ve got the best chance

I see them bottom 5 team overall

You're making excuses for a bad line and constructing a narrative to support it. I don't buy it.

RoR was 57% dzone starts. That's not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. He took a ton of draws, offensively and defensively.

Eichel's line, which worked with anyone, was the only strength of this team last year. Everything else was bad. In my book, the biggest problem is the second line because they got massive ice time and were largely unproductive with it. In the first half, they were downright brutal. It's just as easy to argue that their poor play made the defense worse as it is the opposite.

Your list isn't an interesting exercise to me. The only guy on the team from the start of 2016 that needs to be on this team in 3 years is Eichel. Realistically, the number probably ends up at about 5.

It’s not construing a narrative
It’s watchimg what actually happened in the games

Great, u and a few other haters think ROR isn’t good
I’m gonna side with all the analytics experts, media, coaches & GMs, and fellow players that all think he’s VERY GOOD

Who says he isn’t good? He is.

He is NOT a good 5 on 5 scorer, and he does not pose a threat on offense unless it’s a PP. This isn’t a narrative or opinion. It’s a blatant fact.

His very good defensive prowess is why he’s a good NHL player

You were absolutely constructing a narrative. Now you're going back to building a strawman.

Frankly, this isn't about RoR. I think he is good. I've never said otherwise. For the majority of the season, the second line was bad, despite having good players. Line composition, coaching, injuries, poor play....something was wrong. My point has been that blaming the defense or goaltending to defend them, or saying they didn't have enough around them, is a cop out. I stand by that.

Speaking purely from experience as a guy who played competitive hockey on top teams and bottom teams, it is very hard to get motivated to excel when things are going bad for an extended period of time. Purposely tanking, no. More like lack of mental focus and drive sets in.

"Struggle and floated" to 4th place behind Jack, Sam and ROR, right exactly where he should be.

This isn't for you, I'm just lazy:

If you want to call it a "stealth tank", fine, if "stealth tank" means the newly minted GM was going to take the year to see what he had before making any big moves. That is pretty damn close to diametrically opposed to what Murray did to try and land Jesus.
