Simmonds could be had, but even though he's a UFA in 1 year, the Flyers won't just give him away for a pile of 3rd/4th liners. It will likely cost 1-2 top prospects, and I doubt Toronto would do that.

So basically only Skinner would be a realistic option for Toronto, ok agreed.

You do not need them. There is no guarantee Grundstrom will be anything, there is no guarantee they need to trade Brown and there is no guarantee they don't have another prospect that can fill the same hole.

You do not blow a chance to get a good player over a prospect that might be a 3rd line player

I'd be ok with them trading some better prospects away for players they can resign without interfering with the core cap. Not for rentals. I think you're ignoring history with this vein of thought. Very short sighted in my opinion, which was the issue with management before this current office.
