He won't be. Even before his 2 down years, he was considered many notches below other players...even though he produced more than Crosby in a 5 year span.

JVR just signed for 5 years at 7M as a UFA. Why would Simmonds sign a deal for 4M?

It's always been his dream to be underpaid by the Flyers.

I don't know Simmonds personally, but I don't think he wants to leave the Philly area, especially with all his work in the community. But you have to think about your future and deserves to get paid.

What award was Getzlaf nominated for in 13/14, and Stamkos in 12/13? I'm seriously asking, as I can't recall.
- jmatchett383

Hart and Messier nominations for Getzlaf in 2014. G was also Hart nominee that year.

That would be Winnipeg's problem. They get cap relief this season then they could let Simmer walk if they can't sign him and fit him under cap. Article I read had them moving high cap player so they can sign remaining rfas. Plus they have some contracts to offer starting next summer.

I agree, that is Winnipeg's problem...which is exactly why they wouldn't do the deal.

Why would they trade a young, top-pair RHD who will be an RFA after this year for a player who is 30+ and a UFA after this year? They could do better.

I am corrected. That was a lockout year and Stamkos finished runner up for the Rocket Richard and Art Ross. I must have been too mad when I looked that one up. Still a shortened season.

Granted. But still, I, for one, am sick of the NHL's anti-Stamkos policy and will no longer stand for it!

No, because I'm not going to go digging. But wasn't Giroux nominated for the Hart after finishing second in scoring in 11/12?

Giroux wasn’t nomination finalist in 2012.

Also, the TB Lightning didn’t make the playoffs in 2013.

They could do better. Agreed. I'm pretty sure they have plenty of forwards as well. They would be looking for young entry level contract guys. No urgency either as they should be okay cap wise this season. Looks like 19-20 is when they may have issues. Speculation is that Trouba or Myers will be moved. Trouba does not want to sign long term in Winn.

True. And when the bulk of people cast their ballots for Hart last year, the Flyers weren't in playoff position.

I think Winnipeg will move Myers by the TDL, possibly in the offseason. It they need to let him walk to resign Trouba, they will.

Trouba only wants to sign long-term in Winnipeg if they pay him like a top NHL dman ($7.5-8M per) but they don't want...yet.

So they would trade Trouba to the Flyers for Simmonds and then let Simmonds walk at the end of the season? Outstanding! I can see it happening.

According to NHL.com, writers submitted ballots after the end of the regular season.

Yeah, but that doesn't happen. Most of them submit them with at least a week to go in the season. The more correct phrasing of what actually happens would be "writers must submit ballots by the end of the regular season." Bill had a big write-up about it a while back, as he was a former member of the PWHA.
