Donna's insider Botchford...

.@botchford: Look at the Jets. Scheifele was drafted in '11 & they're just becoming a good team. And they hit, home runned on almost every 1st pick since. And they're just a team now that can win a Cup. That's how long it can take. And I'm not sure (Aquilinis) want to hear that

7 years later. So one more poopty year then Van will be back in the conference finals.

I'll believe it when I see it. They said this in previous years too. Boeser started last year in the press box. Stecher in the AHL. Both should have played, neither did because useless veterans were in the way.

Wouldn’t it be good to have the rookies miss the losing and play together in Utica for a year and then come up when they’re ready? No rush really

Hearing Dean Lombardi is a serious contender for open job in VAN. We’ll see where it goes.

Part of me hopes they, ownership, fails for a long time, as they seem content on cutting off their nose to spite their face trying to win and compete before they're ready.

Although I'm of the opinion Linden wasn't qualified to be President of Hockey Operations it must have been extremely frustrating to work with/for a control-freak.

- LeftCoaster

Linden did a great, smart job for the players union,. He made them so much money ownership had to lockout the players.

I think he knew what he was doing and would have been proven right in the next few years. He was following the Tampa/ Jets/ Sharks kind of model. Build up enough assets that your pool is deeper than the rest to make moves to improve every year.

My fear is Canucks begin trading young players and assets for veterans emptying the cupboards again...

That doesn't make a dollar today even if it makes 5 dollars tomorrow. FA wants that dollar today

Thanks so f*^cked. I bet Linden wanted to bring on crappy contracts instead of buying FA’s too as that’s what most of the other rebuilds did. Grrrrrr such a waste of time but see what happens this year I guess

He's on track to be a depth big guy with some level of skill but nothing impactful. It'd be lucky to provide the offence Stever Bernier could at this point.

I feel like Linden just wanted to stack Utica. Let the almost players sort themselves out in the NHL this year and then call guys up in March.

But it seems like they want the kids on the team at camp so they can lose guys like Leipsic, Goldobin, Granlund, Gaunce, etc. on waivers for for 5th round picks

So all that complaining about TL over the years, should have been buying signs asking FA to sell the team instead?

That definitely would have been the way to go for sure. They said they wanted them in a winning culture, well stack Utica with young talent and there you go!

The guys you mention are types that should be playing NHL and learning so when the young guns come up (Pettersson notwithstanding) they can be the mentors.

Also what about Mark Hunter? He’d be awesome to bring in as he can scout and probably be better at judging a modern team. Is he on the outs with the Leafs?

The scary thing with Jake is that outside of his draft year he doesn't have any years of above average production relative to his peers.

The Leafs stacked the marlies with not-good-enough-for-the-NHL vets. They gave them AHL contracts but were like "we're going to pay you 500k to play in the AHL and your job is to hammer in the day to day of pro hockey"

Mark Hunter is JB again. Amateur scout by trade. No track record otherwise to speak of.

Good management teams have diversity of opinion. Having 5, 6, 7 guys shouldn't be a problem for whoever the HiPPO is, as long as they're willing to listen and be wrong.

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks part ways with president Trevor Linden after 4 seasons
After four largely frustrating seasons, it seems that differences of opinion led the Vancouver Canucks to announce on Wednesday that they were parting ways with president of hockey operations Trevor Linden.
- Carol Schram

I am surprised at the reaction of the fan base regarding this situation. But in all honesty I am not really that surprised considering the uninformed statements that are made by individuals based on emotion rather that facts.

So from what I've read by real knowledgeable hockey people (sorry not HB posters) that, 1. Linden was hired by Aquillini to turn the club around. 2. Linden communicated his vision and that major changes needed to be made, i.e. trade Edler, Sedins, whomever for picks. 3. Aquillini overruled him. 4. Linden presented a list of successful rebuild teams to FA. 5. Again overruled, building a successful franchise is not the objective, the only objective is to make the playoffs and continue the 1st round exit and rinse and repeat...

Ok there is a little creative paraphrasing there, but essentially that's the overall picture.

And for the last 4 years Canuck fans have blamed the overall position of the Canucks at Lindens feet, when in actuality he was trying to rebuild the team properly through draft and develop and trading vets for picks.

Ok know that Linden is gone who is everyone going to set there sights on now, there can't be peace without unwarranted hyperbole.

I hate to say it, but until FA sells, it doesn't matter who we get. Shortcuts will always be tried, and there will need to be a bit more luck than normal for us to win the cup.

This presser is a mess.

A lot of speaking without having a single answer.

JB deflecting with "You'd have to as FA that"

Well, the owner hasn't done media since JB got hired. He doesn't need to be Melnyk or Jerry Jones out there every week saying crazy things, but some presence especially around times like this wouldn't be a bad thing.

We probably won't ever know. The speculation sucks..
- 93Nucks

Exactly .

The media was early reporting that Linden wanted things slow and then this morning they made it sound like he was the impatient one.

The writing was on the wall months ago when Benning was told to bypass Linden . He should have left soon as that happened.

Well, this certainly explains the constant mixed messages over the last few years.
It should be fun to watch all of the promising prospects get traded away as Aquilini & Benning go all in to make the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Yup only to be bounced after loosing 4 straight in the first round..

I now have a new found hatred of Aquilini.

LA got two cups. Could of had a dozen with Holtby, Myers, Gardiner, Dumoulin, Zucker, Bjugstad, Klefbom, Schenn, Simmonds, Jones, Miller.

Who LA could have right now if it wasn't for Dean Lombardi. Carter, Richards and Williams I think are the only three players he traded for that helped them win the cup.

But they won the cup, who cares about the rest. I would happily give up Hughes, Elias, Dahlen, Horvat, Boeser if it won us the cup.
