VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Canucks have named Vantel as their new general manager.
Vantel is the first significant hire made by new Canucks president of hockey operations Trevor Linden, who was handed the franchise's reigns after the team missed the playoffs for the first time in six years following a disastrous 2013-14 campaign.
Vantel spent the last eight seasons with the Boston Bruins, including seven as the club's assistant general manager.
A former Canucks defenceman during his playing days, the Vantel is the 11th general manager in franchise history ? a post he has never held with an NHL club.

Benning earlier this month: "There's still a lot of the summer left to determine, whether it be in some sort of trade -- trades for draft picks, or change the look on defence."
"I'm also not 100 percent convinced that the Canucks will return with the exact same defence. I could still see them trying to make a move." - manvanfan
I think everyone expected that the Nucks had to make changes to this defense and couldn't possibly come back with the same group but I think the potential addition of Hughes and the obvious turbulence with Linden has slowed down that process.
Now that both those issues have been resolved, I expect we see a move of some sort even if it is just made to shake it up. |

A wildcard on the d might be Hutton. It is highly unlikely but possible that he pulls his brain out of his butt and decides he might actually like an nhl career and show some effort to being fit and learning his craft. His attitude doesnt suggest it so far, but
i have worked with a lot of that age group who take a while to figure things out . |

Good morning!
The Quinn Hughes news is a golden opportunity for Olli Juolevi, that's for sure.
I expect we'll see some sort of change on the Canucks blue line by the time the puck drops for opening night in October.

Well he replaced Dowd with Schaller
He promoted Sutter for a year or two and brought in Beagle to do Sutters old job
He brought in Roussel to do Dorsetts job ( similar players)
I really fail how to see how this has destroyed all the plans of going forward . - VANTEL
Ok, so using your specific examples, I believe he has once again put the wrong people in the position to succeed. I don’t believe Sutter is capable of carrying an offensive (top 6) line, and now he has compounded the problem by bringing in Beagle (two very similar players). We weren’t winning with Dorset, why will we win with Rousel? The whole notion of remaining competitive is the problem with his plan. Dowd was a stop gap because of injuries, how many games did he play? Not enough to ever consider him a Canuck for histories sake. |

Dont get the uninformed all excited here prezzy. I think this is a good move for quinn first and foremost. I think this is also great for our chances at top 5 next year. A good michigan team and staff, world juniors in vic and van, signs his elc at the end of his season. Everyone wins. - Codes1087
I agree.... but that interferes with the hate panic so I'll have to disagree with you

Who in the NHL needs 3 bottom paying LHD? Edmonton and Toronto? Really limits the trade options. |

The speculation that Benning and FA are fast tracking is a bit humorous . Benning refused to give up the 7 th OA for Hanifin and even though we needed a top 6 center desperately we only offered Sutter Jake and Tryamkins rights . Benning did not want to part with the 7 th OA .
Again the only way media can sell is to raise hysteria. - VANTEL
Plenty enough hysteria in here lol
