There’s not much to tear down, they kind of ground this thing to nothing while trying to remain competitive. Now that the twins are gone maybe they will hit bottom. Or maybe they get marginally better with a slightly quicker team who can all play the coaches system. - 1970vintage
Not anymore but obviously it started years ago.
As Vantel said that JB wants to develop and is willing to give a spot to a rookie when they are fully ready and not just throwing them to the wolves.
Going to have a younger top 6 this season, supplemented by vets in the bottom 6. |

I think you are way off base. The contract signings and trades do not suggest a slow burn to completion, they suggest a quick fix for relevance. That’s just my opinion. For me it isn’t about Benning Vs Linden, both guys have been saying one thing and doing another. - 1970vintage
Jims message has always been the same . We want to be competitive and draft and Develop players.
It was only Linden that ever suggested rebuild.
Jim made these big trades in his first two years since then he has stuck to small trades for assets .
I think the Sutter trade is finally showing it's value that he can step up while Pettersson learns the NHL.
Gudbrandson has been a big disappointment .
His first two years were set along as Life with the Sedins thus Eriksson Gudbrandson Sutter .
His last two years he has been building as Life after the Sedins. |

Insane prices. It's still junior games. - manvanfan
Yes it is still junior games, but in Victoria to get 12 plus games of top junior caliber for $400 seemed reasonable. |

I want to trade scraps for a first, have that team bomb and win the lottery with their pick while we grab a wild card for.

Sutter to Anaheim.
Thing is, they want him. |

12 games for 400 bucks isnt too bad at all imo. Royals games arent much cheaper |

Next year . We need to get Jack Hughes first - VANTEL
I'll believe it when I see it. Didn't even watch the Lottery last year. But if it ever happened, u van bet they have Quinn announce the pick. |

There looks to be a lot of centers in next years top 10
Just like this year we didn't get Dahlin but we did get Bobby Orr

Yeah, I get the plan, I just dont think he has done what he set out to do, and I think he chose the wrong people to accomplish his yearly goals. His teams have been up to the cap ceiling every year and yet performed to the lowest possible standards. I disagree about the last two years. His post Sedin work didnt start until July 1st, and I am of the opinion that he cocked that up as well. |

Well he replaced Dowd with Schaller
He promoted Sutter for a year or two and brought in Beagle to do Sutters old job
He brought in Roussel to do Dorsetts job ( similar players)
I really fail how to see how this has destroyed all the plans of going forward .

Yeah $400 is fine, $1600 is not. Unless I misunderstood what the $1600 was for. |

Like Virtanen and McCann? Hutton? Stecher?
I dont consider the twins to have been top 6 players last year. Their 5v5 ice time was as low as it has ever been. Which means that the top 6 can't get much younger. If Pettersson makes the team it will be a different young player coming out. |

You really need to get past Bennings first two years in office. No one will argue he was horrible back then but he is getting better. |

When I spoke to Benning earlier this month, I got the sense that if Hughes did sign they weren't going to guarantee him a spot. They wanted him to show up and beat out a veteran. They weren't going to move someone until then. |

On a side note, I just read an article from Brough on the Athletic that was interesting and made it clear to me it was Linden and Aquaman at odds and not Benning.
Here is a section of the transcript between Brough, Benning and Green.
Me: “OK… it’s just hard for us to understand how Trevor Linden, one of the most popular figures in Canucks history, could just decide in the middle of the summer to walk away. I appreciate your position, but we still don’t know what happened. Because Trevor isn’t speaking and the ownership isn’t speaking, so all we can do is ask you. And you say you don’t know.”
Benning: “Yeah, well…”
Green: “It’s Travis here, Jason… I think everyone’s surprised that it’s happened. You know, it’s not up to Jim or myself to sit here and say what happened, because we don’t really know the specifics. But when you’re talking about… a president and an owner, they obviously have their own discussions.”
Props to Green for jumping in to save his general manager. That’s a good teammate right there. The rest of the call didn’t shed any additional light on what may have occurred to make Linden leave. As for Aquilini, he hasn’t held a press conference since 2014, so I guess we’ll have to rely on social media for anything he has to say.

What happens behind closed doors stays behind closed doors. Good for Canucks and Linden for keeping it that way

VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Canucks have named Vantel as their new general manager.
Vantel is the first significant hire made by new Canucks president of hockey operations Trevor Linden, who was handed the franchise's reigns after the team missed the playoffs for the first time in six years following a disastrous 2013-14 campaign.
Vantel spent the last eight seasons with the Boston Bruins, including seven as the club's assistant general manager.
A former Canucks defenceman during his playing days, the Vantel is the 11th general manager in franchise history ? a post he has never held with an NHL club.

Jason Brough
Benning earlier this month: "There's still a lot of the summer left to determine, whether it be in some sort of trade -- trades for draft picks, or change the look on defence."
"I'm also not 100 percent convinced that the Canucks will return with the exact same defence. I could still see them trying to make a move." |
