its not a great sign when one of your big wins as a GM in the trade department is bust prospect/mid pick for the types of guys who don't matter in the NHL - Lindenis#1
You aren't even standing on the edge of a 100 story building, you have already started to make your way down. A total free fall. I hope you find happiness in something else. This team obviously isn't it.

A worse sign is big trades that flop not the ones we are involved in. Duchene |

Gaunce should reinvent himself. He is what he is offensively at this point so he should really embrace the defensive side of the game. If he could mix in a couple fights and some scrums he could really build his brand. He skates well enough to play in the league and he is a smart player but he is just so damn bland.
Edit. Gaunce would have to look no further than coach Green as a great example of a player that reinvented himself part way through his career. #mentor - CanuckDon
I'm not sure its reinventing if that's where he is already... embracing the defensive side of it. He's already a impressive penalty killer and a excellent forechecker. Its more like continuing to develop his strengths.
Vantel and I have debated and I really don't know why a player that fits a roll like the 4rth line needs to get 15 goals to prove himself or be waived.

I want more heated debate on fringe NHLers please.
Any topic will do as long as it’s not about TL. - bloatedmosquito
I helped build TL's house on White Ave in Kits. I was a fringe carpenter.

Well I mentioned he needs to drop the mitts once in awhile. Just play with an edge. He is too docile |

You don't think "they did well" drafting Boeser at 23rd? What does this kid have to do to get a break from you? Not exciting... doesnt get included in your list of legitimate NHLers picked by Benning. Isnt considered a good draft year with him being a late 1st home run in it. All season long you talked about the wall he was going to hit even though research shows that the college wall is a myth.... he hit a gate but with 5 weeks left...no wall yet... give the kid a break. - boonerbuck
Lefty's draft standards are just absurd. One more second round pick gets you?
Second rounds picks with 100+ points in the NHL
2014- 0
2013- 0
2012- 1
2011- 6
2010- 5
2009- 7
2008- 6
2007- 4
2006- 7
1/4 at best.
Past the first round it truly isn't a waste to get a player that can put up 30 points a season in the NHL for a 2nd round pick. |

Don't hold your breath. Passive players will be passive players and dropping the mitts once in a while and embarrassing yourself does little to prove anything. I'd rather see him play the boards harder and I'd be happy with his level of physicality then. That's all that's missing because he does play strong in puck battles and wins more often than not... just needs to bang a little more.

He was serious.
Brandon Sutter is not the only player now to never have scored more then 40 points and have a contract over 4 million. He's now making 800,000 more then Sutter for the next 6 years. |

I agree with "more picks is better" for sure. No one can disagree with the obvious. His position on what we missed out on is pretty funny though... the picks we make are constantly downplayed and the picks we should have made are obviously NHL players.
How far along people think this team should be in a rebuild with the Sedins in the line up the whole time is laughable and very unreasonable especially from posters on here who couldn't imagine letting the Sedins go 6 years ago. Then they want a full scale tear down and fast rebuild with the Sedins playing out their contract(some wanted a extension this summer). Bonkers... heads up their asses all the way. |

Gaunce is fine for a bottom team but the plan is to get better. He doesn't bring what other typical 4 th liners bring such as toughness ,tenacity , big hits, checking , so if he is not bringing that then he needs to score points.

Weird that defensive play isnt even on your radar for a 4rth liner? Just physical and or offense.

His hits are there but they are far too passive. He can learn to fight. That’s a crock of sh!t. Hell, even Horvat had a fight last year. He doesnt have to become a tough guy but he can engage in the odd scrum and drop the gloves once or twice per year. He has the size for it he just needs to harden up a bit. As I said earlier, no one knows more about that transformation than Travis green. |
