No, I referenced the 3rd round pick AND I suggested they had guys on their list that other teams didn’t. I am of the opinion that they could have selected Madden in the 4th round, even though Bob had him ranked at 69. There would certainly be a risk of not getting him, but he’s a long shot to ever make it to the NHL anyway, so if they picked two other guys who are long shots I feel that puts them in a better position. - 1970vintage
Bob had him ranked 62nd. Your opinion that they may have been able to get madden 32 spots later is unsubstantiated but that’s fine. It is possible. I personally wouldn’t trade a pick in the mid 60’s for two outside of the top 100 (as was offered) as I’d prefer quality to quantity but agree to disagree. Two different approaches to the draft. I’m excited to watch Madden next season. Kid has some hands and wheels! |

It was fun to hear Benning say that the scoring will come from players like Goldobin & Leipsic. - Marwood
Everyone begs to give younger unproven guys chances then we chirp when they say they are going too!

They are both AHL allstars. Reid Boucher clones. I would rather patiently develop players with actual potential than a halfling and a model from Gap Kids. |

You can’t make the playoffs with a bunch of kids screwing up. Hopefully we have lots of vets on PTOs in training camp |

Because that's self deprecating to Benning, he looks dumb enough already he won't add fuel to that fire. - LeftCoaster
Personally I see it as he's learned from his mistake. Did it with Prust. But I don't see Aqualini burying 6 million in the minors for years. |

I think Granlund and Gaunce are the guys who will lose a job to Leipsic and/or Goldobin. Gagner is in with Sutter and Eriksson as part of the core group of veterans (Beags and Rous) - 1970vintage
Yep. Lipstick will be for sure in the lineup Goldy is a wait and see. |

Why would they bury him in the AHL? He is still a quality player and anyone that doesn’t see that needs to look beyond his contract. If he was earning $3MM this wouldn’t be a discussion |

Lipstick showed last year that if his TOI improves he'll get 20.
Goldy jury still out. - LordHumungous
I like Leipsic and I am looking forward to see what Jake Pettersson and Gaudette bring to the club.

Sorry, my mistake, 62. Bob's rankings are a consensus of discussions with 10 NHL scouts, and his impression on where players will be selected. sure, he can be accurate, but his list also has many misses. For instance, a fellow USHLer Jack Drury was ranked lower, but went 20+ spots higher. There are examples of the other way around as well. I think that because of size, most teams would have had Madden lower on their lists. I'm not saying that is right, only what I believe most teams still prioritize. You yourself are prone to height/weight bias.
Anyway, he's a Canuck pick now, so I will be cheering for him to make positive improvements over the next few years |

They'd only bury him if his play wasn't up to par (hence Prust). I was more responding to the fact that Benning isn't scared to put vets to the minors if opportunity presents itself. |

Jake will be bringing Arby's, hopefully he has an extra sandwich in there for Elias, and Adam will be bringingthe mail. |

I don't think either would be claimed.
with opportunity, I'm still not sure there would be much of a difference in production between Goldobin and Granlund. so many of these guys need to be with good players in order to show well. - hillbillydeluxe
Are we really worried someone may scoop one of those two superstars up? |

I was listening to the radio this morning and the 1040 are all upset that Aquilini didn't hold a press conference explaining why they fired Trev.
I was thinking who was the last team that had the owner to come out and say we didn't like the way the GM or Pres handled these things? I know the owner of the Leafs didn't when Lou was let go. I don't remember Jeremy coming out and explaining what went wrong with Chia Pet. What about the Kings letting go Lombardi ? Did Anchovies come out and explain why?
I guess we are special here.
BTW Lombardi is signed with Flyers for 3 more years |

maybe not worried. scraps was used.
there is a little emotional response to the risk of losing anything when you don't have much to begin with.
and have to remember context. bottom feeder scraps, aren't worth much to the majority of the league. and even if you do lose someone, maybe it only turns out to be another Corrado.
regardless, expecting the usual hysteria after young stars and will contribute my share. |

I think FA is. From what I have read he wonders why Vancouver cant be like Vegas and surprise, and that likely means finding a William Karlsson somewhere in his bottom 6 to have a miraculous 40-goal breakout |

Side note, Scott Wheeler at the Athletic did his top 50 ranking of drafted prospects. Canucks led the way with 4:
2 - Petterson (behind Dahlin)
8 - Hughes
36 - Juolevi
38 - Dahlen
Also had Di Pietro, Demko, Gaudette, Goldobin, Lind in the honorable mentions |

When you take a guy in the third round that you could have had in the fourth round, or fifth, or sixth... they had guys on their board that no other team would have taken, why not get two of them? - 1970vintage
Each team would have their own rankings & if a player is ranked at 68 and is available when you pick, then you take that player.
It is called Best Player Available.
It is not based on some mainstream media rankings. |

That should make Van's prospect pool the best in the league?
Side note, he also had MDC on his list. |

It's definitely up there, but I would hope that it drops next year with several of them graduating from prospect status |
