It’s just sad that a guy with as much front office experience as Benning is still “learning”

It’s not ideal.

No ones speculating, it's the plain truth, and yes they're on a good path, the problem lies with the notion they can somehow shortcut this....with Benning in charge. That's the issue.
- LeftCoaster

The owner and coach today said our plan is the same we will continue to draft and develop , but everyone believes Pratt and Botch that Canucks are trying to shortcut it. The owner said yesterday rebuilding takes time but everyone jumps on board with Tony G

Benning and Green told every player on exit interviews you better change your habits and come back a lot better or you won't be a Canuck. They reaffirmed today and yesterday that if there are players better than you they will take your spot. Benning even said today he does not have a problem trading a vet or waiving if they are not playing to expectations but the fan base will listen to Pass It To Bullis and JD Burke that everything is going to hell

When a media guy like Brian Burke goes on air to say someone working in the Canucks organization told him this two weeks ago (Linden leaving) and there's some serious philosophical differences over where the team is and where they're headed, it's not speculation, it's the truth.

I'm just worried about what Benning might do to appease FA, that's an issue for me, or a potential issue.

I'm just stating my opinion for the sake of conversation.

It's a mess if they change direction to indulge FA.
- A_SteamingLombardi

Two weeks ago more than half here wanted Linden gone so where's the problem

Hopefully the new President brings in his own GM

Linden has been pushed to the side since Feb. Most of the media knew he was misserable for months . Burke is slow to the table.

I didn't. Now I'm worried.

I have quite a bit of faith in JB however.

I think it's fair that JB has some optimism that this lineup could be close given a few things falling their way - but hopefully he is not stubborn enough to also realise they may not be, and more patience is in fact required.

There's no indication he's been pushed to the side, that I've read, simply didn't agree with FA vision of the near future for the past couple years, so he stepped down.

Benning on the other hand would suck a golf ball thru a garden hose to please FA and keep his job.

I hope they hire a new president.

I am pushing for a new GM but Aquilini does like Benning so I would believe him .

Giving Benning more responsibilities is not a good idea

I think FA is a meddling idiot and already has Lindens replacement chosen. I also think Green will be picking the players....for now, then FA will step in..

"When Francesco Aquilini announced the NHL team and Trevor Linden were parting ways he said this on Twitter: “A new president will be named in due course.”

But not long after, it seems, he called GM Jim Benning to tell him otherwise.

“He called me and he said that despite all the talk out there that he’s not looking to hire somebody as president of hockey operations,” Benning said.

Wait, what?"

No problem, I'm expecting Gagner to be named President before training camp, just a feeling.

Linden wanted to get draft picks by taking on bad contracts and burying them. FA didn't want to lose that money. That would have sped up the rebuild. TL wanted to retain massive salary on expiring contracts to maximize the return. FA nixed that because he's cheap avs it would cost him cash. Again this would have accelerated the rebuild but FA wants to make money while winning even if it slows down the rebuild. Trevor said (frank) that avs being said yes boss. I like being but I preferred trevors vision ..... even if it cost FA money.

If Linden's issue with the team going forward is adding the young players too soon , doesn't that seem a bit hypocritical coming from the former youngest captain in franchise history? Not to mention a man that went straight to the NHL after being drafted???

No....because for every Trevor Linden that can step in and score 30 goals as an 18 year old there's 200+ kids that need further development.
