I think it all comes down to ROI.

With Patches (current contract) you get a higher ROI on his goal scoring and Pk abilities, but you you lose on the clutch, playoff and leadership.

Overall we'd lose if he got paid just for his goal scoring prowess. He's a complimentary piece to a team on the cusp and not a central building block or foundation piece.

I'd rather give another player, if that's an option, the money that Patches would command. And just because he poop the bed on his last contract negotiation, isn't grounds for a retroactive raise.

The fact that he'll walk and take his 30-39 goals with him from a team that can't score.....sits solely on the shoulders of a GM with no plan, foresight, talent or idea of how to do his job.

We're at a point know where the org is forced to build through the draft because the team and brand has been tarnished by the current owner and GM. So said player will have to come from within because MB will most likely lose in this trade as well.
