I don't think that's an unpossible feat.

Lehtera is another waiver option for Hextall. He played less (and produced much less) than Read did in 16-17, and Hextall had no problem waiving Read the next season when he had just one year left on his deal.

I’ll personally drive Weise to LHV. May need to make a quick stop at the shore though for a little boat trip....

True, but if you waive him for NAK, then you're making Weal your 4C, and I think they'd prefer him at wing in the lineup. Unless Vorobyov/Vecchione make the roster, barring any trades/FAs, I think Lehtera is your 4C to start the year.

NAK could not stay out of the box at the ahl level all year last year. Undersized and penalty prone arent very good bottom 6 traits

Agreed, though I’d get rid of Weise before anyone. I don’t care about the stats or how well they skate. Weise was clearly just going through the motions in a lot of games last year and that just infuriates me.

He's not really undersized, tho. 5'11" 196. Average NHL forward is 6' 200lbs.

He wasn't penalty prone as much as he had a few majors/misconducts for his temper. Definitely would need to reel that in. Three multi-game suspensions in one year could be a cause for concern. But he's a better player than Zac "3rd rounder" Rinalo, and that dude has played over 300 NHL games despite a lengthy suspension history.

Best guess re NAK and Misha

I think Aube-Kubel wins the 4RW spot right out of camp. First, because I think he is ready to play that role and secondly, because he basically only needs to beat some combo of Weise/Leier/Weal for that spot. He's already a better player than Weise or Leier and his strong ES play likely makes him a better 4th line fit than Weal

Vorobyev will probably start the season at LHV. However, if he plays well and either of the Flyers bottom 6 centers aren't performing to expectations, I think he will be the first guy called up to replace them. He's a better defensive player, playmaker and PKer than Vecchione and that will give him the edge for a bottom 6 center spot.

The question is how do the Flyers see NAK? If they see him as a "scorer" then he wont play on the 4th line. The Flyers have demonstrated time and again that they slot players in the line-up according to roles.

I would be perfectly fine with NAK playing on the 4th line as I welcome a skilled line-up over a defined role line-up.

I would like to have Vecchione and NAK on the 4th line this year. So, maybe Hexy can demote Lehtera and Leier, or possibly trade Weal (less preferable imo).

He doesn’t have a very high skill level so it becomes a bigger barrier. Was he killing penalties last year at LHV? I don’t remember that.

If the Flyers go shopping outside of the org for a 4th line/PK option (and I kinda wish they wouldn't, because I do think they have in house options), you could do a lot worse than Matt Read.
- johndewar

I think they’re are some concerns down the middle in house but a center spot 3rd or 4th should be up for grabs. Offer a tryout to some guys waiting for their phones to ring.

Well, he does have a fair amount of skill, tho (https://twitter.com/futur...tatus/1019653441877041152)

He didn't play a lot of special teams in general. He scored 46 points in 72 games. 43 of which were ES points.

I've looked at the UFA list, and the only one who really interested me was Mark Letestu. I guess Dom Moore and Vermette would probably be upgrades on Lehtera, but I'd rather give the kids a chance if that's the case.

But in a way I am also not against having someone who plays with and edge. If he can play at the line and only cross it on occasion, then he can be an effective 4th line winger and PK guy.
