A Chiarelli by any other name could still be a Chiarelli. Great success on the upswing, but took the wrong lessons about going up and doubled down on those to crash and burn.

Hopefully he learned his lesson though, unlike Chiarelli.

On the bright side, I can see him telling ownership to go suck their own asses.

If Trevor was indeed fighting the good fight on a slow rebuild strategy, as some reports are suggesting, then its a sad day for those of us wanting patience and short term contracts

As for a replacement, my conspiracy theory is that there won't be one. Benning has been given the keys on a "temporary basis", but I am betting it is a PR strategy to prevent headlines saying 'Trevor Out, Benning In' (I also doubt they could even find a worthy candidate who would come in and not fire Benning at the beginning of his new extension and be only be a FA mouthpiece). I'd place a large sum of money that they will ride this out for the summer, training camp, etc. and slide an announcement out in mid-November that Jim has been doing a great job and will assume the role of President full-time

FA don’t need no stinking president. Don’t need two people doing that job.

Since TL was a PR move and the PR ain’t working, why keep him around?

Considering the hype when he was hired, the fall out on his dismissal is relatively quiet.

I've always said that Linden was FA's way of not having to face the media and answer the hard questions from the MSM and fans. He was always going to be the fall guy for FA who can't allow people to do their job properly without micromanaging them.

2 local media guys are saying that the UFA signings were the last straw for him. That was after the draft. But Benning probably already told Linden at the draft that he was going to target Beagle, Roussel, Schaller, etc

I respect Linden for walking away from something he doesn’t believe in. He easily could have just stayed on and collected his pay checks.

I always thought it was the other way around and JB wanted more picks/prospects/patience while Linden was demanding for players to be re-signed.

I really hope these reports are wrong because otherwise this team is (frank)ed. The homers can pretend it’s fine, but it’s not.

I feel the exact same way.

Aquilini's impatient and when things don't go perfectly he assumes that he knows best.

If I gave 2:1 odds that the Canucks don't win a playoff game on Petterson's ELC, how much are you putting down on that?

That's every contender. Chicago, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Washington, LA, Boston, etc. etc. etc. Not every team is Winnipeg (because who wouldn't want a trade out of there) or Nashville who manage to get NTC free contracts while good.

NTCs/NMCs are no big deal when you're good. Its the cost of doing business and saving 200-800k here and there so you can add another player.

Benning has handed out long term NTC's and NMC's to players while operating a bottom feeder. Beagle and Roussel have NTCs and they're (frank)ing 4th liners. Sutter has one. Eriksson had an NMC that turns to a full NTC in 2020. Tanev has one too.

True

Friedman is now saying the same things about Linden vs JB/FA

This team needs new ownership badly

When TSN and SN seem to be on the same line then I figure the smoke is close enough to a fire to get my marshmallows out.

And Friedman was shilling earlier this year for Benning/Linden/FA (has mentioned that he's texted with FA before) when he was like "the media in Vancouver are super mean"

I was probably one of the most enthusiastic when Linden was hired. As a person he was the role model for the Sedins character as community orientated team leaders. However the proof is in the results and the results since Linden assumed the position are league worst. I dont know if Aquillini is the reborn Harold Ballard but i do know that playing 4 games in the playoffs would not cover the lack of ticket and merchandise sales lost over the 42 home games. Maybe FA is deluded but you cant sell a track record of futility to the fanbase as anything but what it is. FA is a businessman, he knows he will bleed red if he doesnt convince the fans that the team is competitive or at least trying . Just making the playoffs and being blown out in four doesnt solve the 42 home games preceding it. I dont claim to know the disconnect between the management factions , but i think IF they get a new president, he is going to ensure that HE runs the show , not FA or Benning .

Wow,

Poor Jake Virtanen's new contract barely gets a mention in the new blog. The Linden announcement was a bombshell!

My take, and some thoughts on what happens from here...

Not really, he’s clearly FA’s “yes man” and FA has no patience. This team has bigger problems.

I’m starting to believe that Gillis wanted to rebuild after the SJ sweep and was fired because of it. And now Linden walks away because he thinks more patience is needed and the team shouldn’t be signing ufa vets to 4 year deals.
