We have way too many forwards on this team. - pker2theend
Put some on defence when the injuries hit.
Well done Carol by the way.
Hopefully Sutter shows up at Pro Camp tomorrow and we can chat... |

I don't see this expectation you speak of. Its only a current list nothing more. Developing is too difficult to predict but he has as much of a chance that any on there have. Intangibles & the steps players take is yet to be seen. Players like Lind Palmu Gads look ok but lots of work to do & many unheralded players have made it. Gaudreau - Nighthawk
He’s higher on some posters lists than many other prospects and is often cited as the feel good story soon to make the Canucks. Truth is he’s no where near NHL caliber and a major long shot. Placing him above Jett Woo is a joke. |

A player that just played a season against men and did very well behind a guy who played a half a season vs junior kids.......

Well it’s about projection. Palmu is exactly 3 years older and is likely close to being fully physically mature. Woo is a 17 year old with a lot more upside and he happens to play a far more premium position. Not to mention one is a hafling |

Great blog Carol,
Personally I'm looking forward to a culture change with the Canucks, I think the passive approach by Henrik became a detrimental aspect that surrounded the team. I would like to see a little more push back by all players.
If it has to start with the new players brought in, well, I for one will be glad Benning overpaid for them. If they have the turn the other cheek mentality, I'll join the Benning bashing crowd. - Makita

Well I would hope so. He is 21 years old. If he didn’t perform well in a tier 3 league he wouldn’t be worth signing |

I think if Benning is willing to waive vets if he can't find trade partners to make room for young guys that earn a spot, I am ok with what he has done. If he doesn't live up to that, then there is a huge problem in this organization and he will lose my support. Standings don't matter because our team was left in a cluster(frank) when Gillis left, and realistically you can't expect kids from bennings drafts to be enticing for NTC to waive or bigger UFA's to come here without an overpayment. Getting scraps is all we can do. Once OJ, EP, and QH prove themselves and really hit their stride, i think you see the team able to acquire better pieces to take that next step. |

Yup, prospects are always getting massively overrated and tiny ones have an even larger hurdle to clear. Most of these guys, jasek, Palmu etc will never get a sniff of the NHL |

I never said he was a long shot to be in the top ten. I predicted he may fall out of the top 10. I couldnt predict Chicago had such terrible scouts. I’m good but I don’t have time to analyze every team inside and out. I haven’t had much time lately due to all the mentoring Lefty has needed - CanuckDon
I got you, Donald. You're in need of some veteran mentor, mentoring. I've been watching your mentoring and you're not quite doing it right. It's all right though, you can shadow me for a few years and you might just get this mentoring thing figured out. |

This season if the team doesn't back down from any challenges or cheap shot antics I'll revise my prediction that they finish bottom 10, if they still back down bottom 3-5 place finish.
I'm with you it's time to start showing some promise and next season bigger strides to a playoff bubble team - Makita
Yes top 10 maybe the high end.
3-5 more likely but looking good. |

Ask prust and Higgins about jb's resolve for waiving vets . I see no reason to doubt Benning in this regard... every year he has said he would make room for players that earn it, and every year so far ... he has ! If you feel compelled to worry about his abilities then I suggest focusing on his inability to make worthwhile improving trades , or perhaps his piss poor overpayment record on contracts. |
