So Linden quit eh? What’s his problem? Didn’t he seem reluctant to take the job in the first place? |

Or maybe he was against the moving of veterans like Edler and Tanev , Sutter etc . Maybe it's JB and aquaman that have bought in on the tear down rebuild and Linden was showing to much respect for the remaining country club members ! Seems plausible , coming from a former president of the NHL players association. - Bullfrog77
Nah - I think Trevor wanted a full rebuild. Aquilinis are all about lining their pockets. I think trevor wanted to take on bad contracts for picks/prospects but the Aquilinis were having none of it.
I believe that it was Jeff Paterson who said this morning that FA felt that they were a player or 2 away from the playoffs... |

So is Francesco in a position to sell more season tickets now?
EP & Hughes won't do it. |

Remember that when TL was hired he said that FA agreed to stay the hell out of operations at trevors insistence. So perhaps FA has been medling |

It likely won't happen, because this silver spoon owner is more committed to playing with his toy than thinking long term, but I wish they'd go out and do a real freaking search - not fixating on one big name to mollify the crowd, like a dope - and interview upper management, VPs etc, from the successful franchises - Nash, Chicago, Pitt, Tampa etc. Hunt where the ducks are...puh-leaze! |

If anyone thinks otherwise, they need to get their heads checked.......
I know JB gets a bad wrap for drafting Virtanen, but dimes to dollars, I bet FA insisted the local boy....
JB is astute at drafting. Hindsight what it is, there is no way JB drafts Virtanen without some "gentle" pressure from the top - it was JB's first draft afterall... |

How many billion dollar business owners don't get involved in their own business?
I never liked Trevor in there I thought he was too close to the players and that the last 4 years were played around the Sedins farewell.
To me it is just one more piece of out with the old, in with the new |

According to some media it sounds like it came to a head because JB wants to make a spot for Hughes and Trevor wants to bring him along slowly.
Benning had been reporting to FA directly for some time now instead of going through TL. I doubt this means much of a bump in the progress

What business?
Slumlording & hockey are vastly different.
Hire ppl to do what you cannot & pay the bills. TL might not have been the best choice but FA is the worst choice lol
How is Melnyk doing? |

I'm actually with JB on that one. It's a younger man's league, and Utica is also an option. That said, I can live with the conflict if it is between Linden and Benning alone, but if it is the owner saying I want Hughes in then we are hooped long term.. we might as well pull an Art Bergman and all go to (frank)ing Hawaii. |

From what I heard Benning and JB were fine no problem but Benning was not reporting to Linden he was told to go directly to deal with FA.
Linden was pissed that he didn't have any say on hockey ops |

If they sign Hughes this week then you know the answer.... |

Sports owners, like silver spoon FA, just want to play with their toys. The smart ones know to hire good people and then shut up and sign the checks and enjoy the ride. The dumb ones, like FA, think they know more than they know...no one is dumber and more reckless than a dumb rich guy. |

Maybe, although I figured whether he signs or not also comes down to Hughes. If he doesn't want to play in Utica and sees no end of the D logjam he and his family might take a pass for a year and set up shop in Ann Arbor. Anyway, to be determined. |

Well it looks like the dysfunctional atmosphere finally came to a head. At least for Trevor Linden. The signs were obvious over the past few seasons with the mixed messages from the President and GM.
I never believed Linden was qualified for his position with the Canucks, neither is Benning though in my opinion.
From the outside looking in, it appears Benning is simply a "yes man" for the owner and he'll do whatever he's told, a man of few principles. |

From the outside looking in & JB has few principles. That is quite the leap lol
Benning is qualified & FA is not. |

I really don't find it a big deal that a guy I didn't like that has no previous experience decides to walk away.
He came in as a PR guy and tried to learn on the fly and was told by his boss let the hockey people handle decisions so he packed up his gym bag and left with hurt feelings .
Big deal. |

Any fears that the owner is meddling in the hockey operations have been realized, sad times for Canucks fans. Not because Linden resigned but because you essentially have an owner managing the team instead of the business.
Benning knows very little about business operations, at least that's what I get from him and his bonehead comments. He doesn't even appear to understand the CBA. Good at certain aspects of the GM role, drafting mainly, but really not qualified to run hockey ops. |

Gotta agree with you on this one......
I think after 4 years, the "unqualified" assertion no longer applies. Not saying he was the choice, qualified or even doing a great job but I think he's worked his way into the "qualified" label.... |
