Expecting it to be an in house cheap solution. We are not paying someone to come in, take yet another contract space, and overpay for a washed up vet backup. Either McBackUp is back or Sparks/Pickard will take the spot and expect the other to either get loaned out in the AHL or picked up off waivers. That's assuming one doesn't get moved in a package trade.
All three are capable backups and cheap, something the Leafs will want. - Roadrunner75
But they aren't necessarily capable of playing 25-30 NHL games. |

McAdams...he's the Penn State kid right? Pretty sure he is from Montgomery County in PA. - Glak18
We got him for Matt Martin, so he's gotta be great. |

But didn't play 25-30 games either. Played 20 or less. Then, with more games, had worse numbers. - Unholy_Goalie
Forced to be the starter of a historically bad team when his numbers declined. |

25-30 NHL games is VERY tiring |

Was an AHL back-up last year, poop himself in the 1 game he got with the Leafs. |

I don't think Pickard can be blamed for that historically bad year in Colorado. |

Picard has a .922 svpt playing 20 games but you think he can't maintain that got an additional 5 games over an 8 month period. |

You don't know that. - HealthyScratch6
Neither do you.
But what we both know is that Lehtonen and Mason have played the majority of their careers in the NHL and done so with varying degrees of success as starters while the three goalies the Leafs have as options have never been considered good enough to be effective starters and haven't shown very much as back-ups either. |

AHL backup to the best goalie in the AHL who we also have. And you're going to base It off 1 NHL game lol |

They've both been bad their whole careers. |

Mchelheney and Picard have both been effective backups in the league and sparks is young and was probably the best goalie not in the NHL last year. Leafs back up position is fine. |

Again, you're comparing a guy who barely has an NHL career to two guys who were starters in the NHL. |

If "bad" is an average NHL starter, then what the (frank) is Pickard, Sparks and McElhinney? Horribly bad? |

And Lehtonen and Mason have both been effective starters in the NHL. Rather have one of the two guys who proved they can be the #1 guy rather than two guys who can barely be a back-up. |

Sign Vermette and have him play as the back-up, trade for Karlsson and have him as 4c. This GM thing is easy. |

Get rid of two of them. Keep Pickard as the AHL starter, trade Sparks and McElhinney and sign Lehtonen or Mason to a 1 year deal. Problem solved. |

They're are either young or cheap or both which is fine since they are good enough to play 25 games. Leafs don't need to win every game they play. |

Likely no, but Babcock needs to trust the backup goalie. Or maybe we trade for Jimmy Howard. |
