I'll be honest.

The question mark has me as (frank)ed up as UG's retarded opinions do.

OK. Lets put it like this. What's better; One Piece manga or anime? Same applies to Attack on Titan.

female dog! You know full well what it means.

I’ve seen the artwork for the manga...was it drawn by Toei?

The point is many goalies develop slower than say, forwards, and take until their mid twenties until they are NHL ready. Sparks looks ready. So give him a chance at training camp and if he does well, give him a chance as the backup.

If he fails and all our other multiple options that we currently have also fail, then we can acquire someone else. McElhinney was a waiver wire pickup. We can find someone else in the fall if that really seems necessary.
No need to get someone else now when we already have so many options just on the assumption that every current goalie won't be able to hack it.

- Thecakeisalie

No, the point is, the Leafs need an upgrade at back-up to prevent Andersen from being overworked and the guys they have now aren't guarantees, they're rolls of the dice in the NHL.

McElhinney still wasn't a solution. He was a temporary stop gap that still didn't give the Leafs 25-30 games at back-up per year.

OK, Yeah. The art is pretty bad. No debate here. But it's still a great read.

(frank)ing killed me when I first read that. Even funnier now that I see it animated. Poor Armin.

Unholy_Troalie, please select all squares with street signs. Thanks.

It doesn't say whether they are streets, avenues or roads so how can we really know?

I'm willing to debate this for 20 pages as well.

No, the point is we might have a solution. We'll see soon enough.

But feel free to continue panicking and whining about our backup situation. Maybe complain about our 4th line center position or our 7th D while you're at it.

Wouldn't say that Pickard or Sparks couldn't possibly be that guy but the odds of it are lower than established NHL goalies with 400-600+ games of experience as starters.

Why didn't Sparks take the job from McElhinney (a shaky option as a back-up to begin with) last year and how much could he have possibly improved to be that much better than McElhinney is now after a career year?

I understand why some people don't like the word, but honestly, kibosh-ing the word is pretty ridiculous, in my opinion.

While I'm a believer that society is becoming too politically correct, I can kind of understand why people that have mentally handicapped family members might dislike people throwing the word retarded around as an insult or in a negative manner.

Just like I can understand why gay people might not like people using the term gay to describe something they don't like, "that's really gay", since it suggests being gay is bad. If something being called gay is negative, it means someone being gay is also negative.

People using retard as an insult are therefore insulting their family members through association. "Shrug."

Would you want your retarded family member compared to UG?

The goalies you are suggesting aren't great options either, and we already have many guys under contract that might work out. Let them try. Hell, if you want to invite one of those guys you're mentioning to a PTO, and they accept, then great. But they are likly looking for a contract now that they won't live up to, instead. If they don't get signed by someone else by the start of training camp though, give them an invite.

Probably because Mac had a career year stats wise while Sparks was busy being the best goalie in the AHL.

They're significantly more proven options who at the same age as Sparks and Pickard were already starters in the NHL. As bad as they may seem, they've proven to be better than who the Leafs have.

They're likely just looking for a contract, period. 1 year deal at 1 or 2 million would hardly be a risk financially and Pickard would likely clear waivers and could be the Marlies starter if all else failed.

But again, Sparks being good in the AHL doesn't prove he's good for 25-30 solid starts in the NHL. If he was really that good, wouldn't he have stolen the back-up job last year? How much did he really improve?
