Haven’t watched season 3 yet. No I don’t read it. - Steven_Seagull
Episode 1 of season 3 came out the other day.
I also highly recommend the manga. I think it's better than the anime, even though the anime does a fantastic job and the animation is fantastic. I don't like it right now, though. |

Jason LaBarbera was a helluva AHL goalie too. Not so great in the NHL though.
Outliers are fun but there's only one Tim Thomas. If the hope here is that Sparks is Tim Thomas, keep praying. I hope he turns out to be Tim Thomas too but the odds of that are slim to none.
The Leafs need a solid, experienced back-up who can play 25-30 games in case Andersen gets hurt and to keep him fresh for the playoffs. Sparks is a gamble at the NHL level. The other options are more proven as NHL goalies, they're more known quantities. If they were rebuilding, it would be one thing but they're not in that situation anymore. - Unholy_Goalie
Just because you can provide one example of a goalie prospect not working out doesn't mean all of ours will fail. The whole reason you have a farm system is in the hopes that some of them will eventually be NHL capable. If they look like they might be, then give them a look. |

The only point here that is stupid is that Miller playing because of an injured starter some how invalidates the fact that he filled in for the starter and actually played well. You know, doing what a back-up is suppose to (frank)ing do. - Unholy_Goalie

Same reason why just because you name drop Tim Thomas, doesn't mean Sparks will be that good either.
Point is, the Leafs need a reliable, proven back-up much more than they need to roll the dice on Sparks or Pickard. They have much more to lose than to gain. |

The point is many goalies develop slower than say, forwards, and take until their mid twenties until they are NHL ready. Sparks looks ready. So give him a chance at training camp and if he does well, give him a chance as the backup.
If he fails and all our other multiple options that we currently have also fail, then we can acquire someone else. McElhinney was a waiver wire pickup. We can find someone else in the fall if that really seems necessary.
No need to get someone else now when we already have so many options just on the assumption that every current goalie won't be able to hack it. |
