Listening to Bill asking Hextall about the Simmonds situation has me a little concerned. I think Simmonds is a key forward and type of player that the Flyers need to help win playoff rounds and ultimately the cup.
A lot of people on here and a lot of Flyers fans don't want to pay out a player like Simmonds who's 29 years old with a long term contract.
Lettings Simmonds walk would be a disaster IMO. I know some of you are thinking move him at TTD and maximize your assets. - Pixote Andolini
I can't see Hexy letting it get to the point of Simmer walking (ufa). If he is healthy, Hexy does his best to resign him to a team friendly deal. If they are far apart you get what you can and he becomes a rental for a contender at trade deadline.
I personally think we resign him. Veteran presence and leadership. If we can get a cap friendly deal for years 5 and 6, I think we sign him.
I know we will all curse Hexy for giving a 30 yo a 5 or 6 year deal but that is the market. |

Fine! I will take my 30 minute punishment listening to JoeG tell the story about when they invented the puck. |

Gagne and Knuble were actually very good players. Gagne was a 40-goal scorer even in 06/07 when Forsberg missed half of the season and Knuble was a very good (not great) power forward for a number of teams. That top line wasn't the issue. - jmatchett383
Knuble was on par with Lecavalier skate speed wise |

Yep. And he topped 25 goals 6 times across 3 different teams. |

He played 1000 games and scored over 500 points. He was still scoring 20+ goals at age 38. He wasn't a burner, but apparently, he was fast enough. |

Erik Karlsson rumors have gone deathly quiet...
Do you think the cyber bullying case is giving prospective clubs pause?
Is the asking price higher than anyone will pay?
Do you think EK would sign an extension for the Flyers?
Would Hexy pull the trigger on a trade for EK? At what cost? |

I think it's quiet because talks are in a stalemate. People know EK wants out and can choose his destination, Ottawa wants the moon for him especially within the conference.
EK wants Tampa, his wife wants Tampa and he has pirate facial hair. EK will be in Tampa either this season or at the latest next. Other teams mentioned in "rumors" is just Ottawa trying to push EK because they are not getting what they want from Yzerman. |

If I were compiling the list, however, I would have ordered the top five quite differently and included some different trades in my top 5.
That might be because you actually know a little bit about hockey, whereas Mr. baseball ... not so much. |

This makes me hope Hexy goes for it. I don’t want to see EK end up long term with a EC contender. Okay okay if he goes to Dallas or Vegas. I just don’t want EK to make our competitors better.
No matter when you think our cup window opens, 1-5 years, Tampa would be a competitor for the East. |
