I thought Coburn moving up with Timonen in 2008 made a huge impact. One of the best top pairs in Flyers history.

He was definitely good player and was had for nothing. I just don't think he was as critical as some of the other players (Parent, Leach, Howe, Leclair/Desjardins, Timonen/Hartnell, etc.).

Again, not knocking him or the trade or saying it had no impact, I just don't think it was AS impactful as the others. Those were franchise-altering moves.

It’s a good trade, perhaps even very good, but when you consider another hall of fame player (Forsberg) went the other way, I can’t rate it as one of the best.

I remember watching Forsberg as a Flyer and just being amazed at his talent. I don't believe we had enough talent to help him. Can't remember who his linemates were. He was special. Too bad about foot issues cutting his career short(er).

Gagne and Knuble were actually very good players. Gagne was a 40-goal scorer even in 06/07 when Forsberg missed half of the season and Knuble was a very good (not great) power forward for a number of teams. That top line wasn't the issue.

Always forget that Coburn was a 1st round pick. Was a very good skater and had good wheels. He made up for some bad decisions with his skating ability.

Loved Forsberg, but he really was limited here because of the foot thing.

A fully healthy Forsberg would have made us view those mid-aughts Flyers teams a bit differently than they are viewed today.

The problem with Coburn was that, as good as he was, the minutes and competition he faced every game meant he'd have at least one big gaffe per game. Those are the images that the Coburn haters have in their minds, not the other 20 good plays he made during the game. If he'd been a second pairing player who didn't play 20+ minutes per game against top competition like 09/10, he'd have fared better.

However, he and Timonen were a legit first pair for 3-4 years, and a tremendous second pair for the 2 Pronger years.

Off-topic, but Alice in Chains was the best of the late 80s/early 90s Seattle bands, and Jar of Flies is their best album.

He was amazing. It’s really hard to predict these kinds of things, but’s lets assume the Lindros deal fell through and the Flyers still trade Recchi to the Habs early in the 95 season. The Flyers potential lineup going into the 95 playoffs might have been something like:

Leclair-Forsberg-Renberg
Fedyk-Brind’amour-Dineen
Podein-Ricci-Klatt
Simon-MacTavish-Druce or Dimaio

Haller-Desjardins
Therien-Duchesne
Svoboda-Yuskeyvich
Dykhuis

Hextall
Snow

And this is without factoring in anyone the Flyers might have drafted in the first round in 93 or 94 or other moves that could have been made via trades or FA.

Yes, the Lindros trade sold tickets and excited the fan base but so would have winning. Adding Forsberg to what the Flyers would have already had by 1993 probably gets the team in the playoffs a year sooner and they still would have likely been a Cup contender by 95. And, as an added bonus, you wouldn’t have had to deal with all the Lindros/Clarke drama.

I think I agree. Though I prefer Dirt even if it is their "most Popular" record.

Layne Staley was a great singer, but IMO Jerry Cantrell doesn't get enough credit for being the actual vocal "sound" of the band. He sings way more than people realize, and people think its Staley singing when it is actually Cantrell. The verses for "Would" come to mind. All Cantrell.

Absolutely, Cantrell was without a doubt, the heart and soul of that band. IMO, he was to Alice as Pete Townshend was to The Who

He is still the reason they sound like AIC even with the new singer.

Those harmonies, nobody does those relative harmonies like he does.

Definitely an agreed to disagree moment. That pair saw an eastern conference final in 2008 and a Stanley Cup final in 2010. I also felt like Coburn and Grossmann played Malkin very well in the 2012 first round.

Listening to Bill asking Hextall about the Simmonds situation has me a little concerned. I think Simmonds is a key forward and type of player that the Flyers need to help win playoff rounds and ultimately the cup.

A lot of people on here and a lot of Flyers fans don't want to pay out a player like Simmonds who's 29 years old with a long term contract.

Lettings Simmonds walk would be a disaster IMO. I know some of you are thinking move him at TTD and maximize your assets.
