I get it. Sometimes people get off on the wrong foot and things have a tendency to escalate quickly, especially when dealing with issues that exacerbate tribalism. Sports is a big one and we see what may have started out as an honest question or critique devolve into name calling and exchanges of ridiculous strawman arguments being attributed to entire groups of people. I really try to avoid those pitfalls because living in an echo chamber is not a good way to live or learn.
I was somewhat surprised by the JT signing only because history was against it, however, the circumstances surrounding the Leafs franchise currently are much different than most of the past several decades.
The Leafs kept their pending UFAs for the playoff run/experience, IMO and that was worth losing them for nothing but the cap space which allowed for the JT signing. I don't know if that was a Lou decision a Dubas decision or a mutually agreed upon position.
Defensively speaking JVR, Bozak and Komorov were pretty bad. JVR's net frontj presence and goal scoring ability will likely be the biggest loss as I don't think there is anyone currently able to fulfill that exact role/skillset. JT can score goals for sure but not in the exact same fashion. Bozak was a good faceoff guy and a go to guy i the shootout. That could cost a couple points in the standings but shootout results are somewhat random. The Leafs were brutal two seasons ago in the shootout and that was with Bozak in the lineup. I don't think anyone is going to miss Uncle Leo.
There are internal replacements for the losses albeit inexperienced ones. I prefer to reserve judgement until I see these guys play at least a few regular season games to gauge what combinations work best but I think JT makes the offseason overall a net gain even with the aforementioned departures. - BlueBallz
don't make things up.
Komarov was one of Leafs' best forwards on the defensive side of the game.

he was pretty bad defensively last year to be honest. he was getting ice time based on reputation alone it felt it. |

Not exactly sure what the question is, but assuming it has to do with the "Flyers will never win without a goalie". Toronto does not have a good history with goaltenders themselves, in fact Leafs may have a worst history than the Flyers if you looked at both side by side. |

What about the glory days of Andrew Raycroft, or the wonderful time we all had watching the Jonas Gustavsson experiment? |

I was just talking to someone about that time JR toasted Eddie up high in OT. What a great series that was, hope it happens again in the near future. |

No one speaking ill of Pelle Lindbergh, he would have been something special for the Flyers.
Hextall on the other hand.. let's just say I'm glad that Felix Potvin beat the crap out of him.. |

You're an idiot.
How can you look at Raycroft, Toskala, Gustavsson, Scrivens, Reimer, Bernier, Rynnas, Mark In Da Park, Bibeau, Gibson, Giguere, MacDonald, Gerber, Aubin, Tellqvist and Pogge and say this isn't a goalie factory. |

Am I calling him one of the best ever....no not even close, but to call him trash is unbelievable. Do you realize he won the Conn Smythe in the STANLEY CUP finals against one of the greatest teams in the history of the NHL...and was on the losing side? Also was in net for another Stanley Cup finals in 97...getting beat by another all-time great assembled teams in the history of the NHL.
Pelle...ok I get it that it's tough to say what "would of" happened, but he was considered one of the best when he played. |

I didn't say they sucked, just saying their best years were way before they became Leafs. |
