We have a good chance of finishing ahead of Ottawa, Montreal and the Islanders.

Actually that might be bang on.

I posted in another thread recently that the Canucks would be better than people expect. Reminds me a lot of the 2-years ago Leafs. If they big performances from some good young players + moving on from some vets and manage to stay healthy... I think they could be a wildcard contender.

- Aetherial

If we get decent luck on injuries & good goaltending its possible.

Come on you guys

Honestly, Vancouver has some real good young talent... and I don't like the Leafs goaltending much either.

Maybe I got a little carried away with the WC thing, but I don't see the Canucks in nearly the same boat as Montreal and Ottawa. Buffalo has some good young talent, so maybe that is a good comparison going forward?

- Aetherial

We are trending up on talent & a new era post Sedins. Lots depends on how well the team gels with TG’s system, consistency will be a huge challenge. Marky’s time to go to the next level or its a bottom 5. Injuries we cannot afford but easy to say.

Vancouver only really started drafting well when Brackett came in . It will take a couple of years . We need to let our prospects now develop.

I don't care if we finish bottom 10

- VANTEL

With our drafting i see each year a new kid or 2 pushes for a spot. This year idk other than EP. its still the D thats yet to form up & logjam of too many 3rd pair D needing a trade.

Benning's comments on the draft shows he puts a lot of trust in Brackett and looked to him for answers but Benning did also nix him when he wanted a goalie in the third round
- VANTEL

Its good he defers to his head scout. Making the call on what holes to fill is on JB. Working together is great & JB is a rink rat more than a watcher of other games. Down in Utica we have good management so overall the organization looks in good shape.

I think the Neal deal will look bad in a couple of years and I didn’t love the Hamilton-Hanifin trade either but their roster looks decent if 1 of Brodie or Hamonic can rebound.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Neal
Bennett - Jankowski - Frolik
Czarnik- Ryan - Brouwer

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Andersson - Stone

Smith

Pretty decent roster, but I don’t like Peters as their coach. Bennett not developing into a legit top 6 forward has kinda (frank)ed them over though, they need to make some playoff noise in the next 2-3 years or Treiliving giving away picks like candy is gonna end up being a wasteland they’ll be in no-man’s land.

- Nucker101

Something seems terribly off with Bennett idk what but its there. Is it attitude?

He's just not that good. Flashes of high end skill, but doesn't have the brain or the structure to put anything together.

If there was a pond hockey league he'd be a HOFer.

A total team effort to get the job done.

The rankings this year were all over the place. The draft was even more all over the place. Teams are doing much more drafting for position then BPA.

Burke said he didn't think Woo was a good pick at 37. Didn't hate it but didn't like it.
Someone in the comments posted this:
Among players available at 37, CA had
Akil Thomas at 15, 51st
Ryan McLeod at 19 40th
Calen Addison at 23 53rd
David Gustaffson at 27 60th
Jake Wise 28 69th
Bode Wilde 29 41st
Cole Fonstad at 31. 128st
Jett Woo at 32. 37th

The only person they got close on to what NHL teams thought was Woo. In bold where they actually went in the draft.

- manvanfan

Burke nit picks. In the 2nd so many players could be available & few turn into much so over analyzing it means not a lot to me.

I guess i challenge his motor & smarts. He’s not impressing me on work ethic & suspect he is spoiled hence attitude issues. Talent wise yet to prove to me he has enough. Too vanilla IMO

I’m mostly excited about EP & AG being good C’s. EP a top C & AG be a least a great 3C. If EP is better on the wing then hopefully AG can be a 2C. Bo & AG as 1 2 punch is fine if wingers pull their weight & can score a lot. D i tend to be looking for a top UFA when they hit the market at any time. Its the only time i jump the gun & want an instant fix to speed it up.

As long as drafts go well & JB & company keep building up assets & trade out who they give up on we should make us more desirable to sign here. Normally i’m like everyone else on UFA signings are sketchy & risky.

Woo could be a good complimentary player to Hughes. Different styles.

It could also just be that he's not very good with everything you need at the pro level. Being able to play within and control structure at the NHL is a MASSIVE requirement. Not every struggling young player has attitude issues.

If he can log the minutes & be a big help on shutdowning sure but a top 4D for Woo would be a win.
