A winning record in the division is obviously a must to make the playoffs.

If we have a winning record against

MTL
Ott
Detroit
Toronto (we historically do)

Split with:

FLA

Losing record against

Boston
Tampa

Good?

Depends on the w/l splits...if tney lose all games to Bruins and Lightning, but win the winable series by 1 game each, it doesnt help

Oddly, last season they played the better teams pretty decently but struggled with the lesser teams.

Sounds logical ... But we were the last place team in the league and lost one of our better players. Does Dahlen make up for that ? We shall see ...
- kritter65

We're also so the team that has the most amount of talent ready to either make the jump to the NHL or have a breakout season in the NHL. Both the Sabres and Rochester should be improved this season. There's no real excuse for them not to climb the standings.

We've been doing that for 10 years.

We used to suck against the Thrashers. Hopefully this team can play to its own level. That means a consistent effort.

When you can show up and play against the Leafs or Tampa, but you lose to AZ, WTF are you doing?

Well, as an older gentleman, it god s back longer than 10 years sadly enough.

But yes, they play to the level of their competition.
You are right, they now need to find consistency in their play ... raise their floor on a nightly basis.

I am looki g forward to seeing what they are this season, rather than expecting them to suck.
And, especially watching the young guys develop and grow

Yeah, that's nowhere near good enough

probably have to

4-0 Ott
3-1 MTL
2-1-1 Detroit
2-1-1 Toronto
2-1-1 Florida
1-3 Tampa
1-3 Boston

15-9-3

Thats 34 points out of a possible 56

win the contests against NJ and Philadelphia

Saying it was a "bad take" was a poor choice of words by me. They weren't as bad as probably perceived last year within the division though. I didn't double check, but at the end of the season I looked and thought they were .500 or better against the big 3 in the division. Agree with having to stop playing down to competition. Hopefully that changes.

Say they go 15-10-3 in the division - 28 games

14-11-5 in the Western conference - 30 games

2-1 Philly
2-1 NJ (these two are very important imo -6 games

8-8-2 - remaining 18 games in the East

41-31-10

92 points

I just made the playoffs

My sister went with us and she had carrots and celery (with veg cream cheese on it ) that crunching was great to hear

Especially when she's trying to be quiet and you take that slow chew with the damn celery lol

I get trying to snack healthy,
but that’s just rude

Tell her to bring cucumber slices,
or something softer like that next time

Milky Way is 3 Musketeers + caramel,
so that’s obviously better unless you’re some weirdo who doesn’t like caramel

Did u though?
Last season Nj was 8th with 97pts

It’s quite possible that 92pts still leaves us out

92 sometimes get you in. Regardless, i think most of us would be (frank)ing pumped to get 92 points, which imo, is perfectly feasible when you consider you can get there while being .500 (41-31-10)

That would mean we're probably still in the race in the dying days of March/early April

I think the magic number this year is 94 points. Isles will Probbaly be a 75 point team that steals a few games from the top dogs. Philly and Carolina will both be better. New Jersey will take a step back but still be in the race. Detroit (see Isles), Buffalo will be better. Carey Price will keep Montreal in games despite how poor their roster is. Ottawa is a dumpster fire. I think we’ll see a little more parity this year.

Tough to say right now
I could see us finish 4th in the division but still miss out

Unless something weird happens:

Atlantic division
IN- Tampa, Toronto, Boston
BUBBLE- Florida, Buffalo
OUT- Montreal, Detroit, Ottawa

IN- Pittsburgh, Washington, Philly, Columbus
BUBBLE- Carolina, NyRangers, NewJersey
OUT- NyIslanders

Of the “bubble teams”
I’d put us last in that list as of right now
And if Price is back to being super good, then MTL could move to a bubble team also

We still have some work to do imo

I think you are underrating Florida. They finished 25-8-2 last year and missed the playoffs by 1 point. If it weren’t for their injuries and taking half a season to wake up they would of been in the talk for a top 3 spot in the Atlantic. We are the 5th best team in the Atlantic. I think Boston has a 1-2 year window before they are a rebuilding club and then we supplant them in the top 4, possibly top 3 depending on how Florida turns out. Toronto and Tampa are built to win now and in the future. The Atlantic will be a dog fight for years to come.
