Someone on Cap Friendly did an All-time Sabres team, and since it’s been pretty slow here i thought I’d share mine

FORWARDS

Martin-Perrault-Robert
*obviously don’t mess with the French Connection line

Andreychuk-LaFontaine-Mogilny
*easily the 2nd best line in Sabres history, no need to break that up either

Briere-Drury-Gare
*I know they weren’t here long, but arguably the most clutch players in team history. And the leaders of one of the top Sabres squads of all-time. I felt ok moving Briere to the wing, bc he would do that on the PP and late in games so he & Drury could be out there together

Vanek-Hawerchuk-Foligno
*just all really good players for us.
Now i know this leaves Eichel out of the top12, but he just isn’t there yet above any of these guys. I’m sure he will be before his career is over though.
You can also make a case for Luce here, but even though he had the longevity, Hawerchuck was a better player.
You could also make a good argument for Pominville here, but i think Foligno just barely edges him out.
Pierre Turgeon should also get mention here. He was a heck of a player.
Michael Peca also deserves mention here as a Captain & one of the best defensive forwards in the league

For the extra skaters...
I’m not just going by talent, I’m considering the “role” as well
Rob Ray is a no brainer. He’s basically a Sabres legend, even though he didn’t have all that much talent.
The next extra skater is also a no brainer imo...
“May Day! May Day! Brad May!”
That goal alone gets him on the list. But he also was a good player who could fit into a 4th line/extra skater role

For the Defense...
I didn’t do pairs bc I’m not very well versed on some of these older guys, so i just figured I’d do a top7
Ramsey, Hajt, Housley, Schoenfeld, Campbell, Ruff & McKee make up the 7 defensemen for the squad pretty clearly imo

Dahlin will end up on this list eventually, and Ristolainen does have a chance too- but he’s gotta improve overall play.
Alexi Zhitnik, Jerry Korab, Doug Bodger & Guevremont also should get consideration, but i feel pretty good about my chosen 7
Tim Horton played 2 seasons for us, he doesn’t belong on this list
I don’t think i forgot anyone, but there might be another older guy who deserves consideration.

The top 2 goalies were obvious choices that no one could argue...
Hasek & Miller, without question

If u were gonna have a 3rd goalie...
I think you’d have to go with Tom Barrasso over Don Edwards, but it’s probably close.
Honorable mention for good players who were here for a while go to Bob Sauve, Darren Puppa & Marty Biron
Biron actually played the 4th most games in net in Sabres history. Yeah, that surprised me too

Anyways...
just thought it would be cool to post my opinions

Feel free to let me know if i forgot anyone
Thought it was interesting

1776.

There was a (frank)in reason for that. So we could have the (frank)in freedom to pick and choose what we wanted. Cuz this is (frank)in America. Meaning, I get to pick and choose that Risto stays on this (frank)ing team.

Gettin sick of this "blah blah blah lets trade Risto." Ya...lets do that guy....who the (frank) is gonna take his place?

Bogo?? Great dude, oft injured.
Nelson?? Fan favy, unproven.
Feetontheair?? Too busy.

I think you get my point. We trade Risto...we end up with no partner for Dahlin. Dahlin struggles to develope...succumbs to the pressures of dealing with being a savior who cant produce...joins up with Roy....*insert coke and partyboy-ing here*...and we're (frank)ed.

There....ya (frank)in happy?

And now for the obligatory "EFFs"...

EFF the Bruins
EFF the Leafs
EFF the Oilers
EFF McAutoHart
EFF Marchand that little (frank)ing rat
EFF Hiliary
EFF the stupid offsides challenge
EFF Bettman
EFF Darcy
EFF the Leafs..again
EFF NHL network
EFF the Draisital loverboys
EFF NoGoal
EFF my life
EFF taxes

and EFF the (frank)ING SENS.

I can speak to this with a considerable expertise.

My guess is Gerbe could really be helped by a peyote fueled 15 day walkabout. No phone, no debit card or credit card, just a fixed sum of cash, 5 packs of Winston’s, a lighter, and 12 buttons of peyote. there’s probably a number between 8 and 10 hits during that experience that could actually make Gerbe a half normal human being. He’s gotta get through a challenge that bends and opens his mind without breaking it.

The problem is if the optimal number is really 6 buttons, and he takes 8, he’ll overload his psyche, lose his faculties, and wind up a goofy mindless imbecile. Like now, but he’ll have a better explanation.

Better pack 2 just in case.

I was gonna suggest an eighth of mushrooms, but that's too much too soon. One hit of acid in the right situation

I would add Luce and Ramsay in there somewhere. I would also drop McKee for Korab and take out Barasso and add Don Edwards. Just my thoughts. Good job.

Not bad... not bad at all... although if it where me building a team I don’t know I could leave Miro Satan off this list, that guy would have put up massive numbers playing on this team. Teppo probably belongs here too, that guy was really good.

And if there was a 3rd goalie it would have to be Roger Crozier... imho.

- gordong

Can’t believe i forgot about Satan & Teppo
Idk who I’d put them in over though?
I think I’d have given them honorable mention, but still left them off

Satan would be really close with Pominville & Foligno, but he was more 1 dimensional than those other 2
So I’d still leave him off

Teppo only played 3 years for us
And i feel like he was more of a solid player than a great one
Who would u put him in over?

Idk much about Crozier, other than his stats
But just looking at games played,
looks like he split starts for 2 years (44gp & 49gp) and was the outright starter for only 1 season (63gp)
He only played 46 games total in his other 3 seasons with us

Barrasso played in more games in his 5 years + with us, plus the Vezina & rookie of the year awards
I feel like he was the better goalie, and for longer (basically 5yrs to 3yrs where he played a big role)

Thanks for your insight though!

Who are u taking out for Luce & Ramsay?
I guess u could make an argument to boot out Briere & Drury bc of time spent here

All those guys u mentioned are before my time, so i didn’t really have a good handle on them

I thought of McKegney, but when i looked him up he was only here for 4 years i think

VanBoxmeer was another guy i considered,
but i put Ruff & McKee in over him
Mostly bc I’m just more familiar with them though

I don’t have much of a handle on how good some of the older guys were

When you have a general manager that has no clue what he's doing that happens

If we had Darcy instead of Tim Murray what would the team be

I took longevity into it,
but in most cases i just took who i thought the better player was VS who accumulated the most stats over time
