He was extended under Murray to get through the Tank. Nolan said that Murray never talked to him. Wasn't his hire and doubt the extension was his decision either. He could have just not extended him. He could have distanced himself from Nolan. There's a million ways to go with this. I'm sure one or more people will chime in and say that Brandon hired Disco, not Murray, so Murray never actually picked any coaches.

Murray was good at the draft, and bad at being a GM. If he had remained an AGM who runs the draft, and we brought in a steady hand to evaluate trades more prudently, perhaps we would have gotten better sooner. the 2017-2018 Sabres were still Murray's core guys, and they sucked. He assembled a hodgepodge of guys who never exceeded the sum of their parts. His vision failed, his core failed, and he's out of the NHL. Some of the guys he picked in the draft will be in the NHL. I hope that includes Nylander.
