Leadership starts at the top.

If those below the leader aren't using the resources available correctly, the blame falls on the leader.

- dadeadhead

That's a good sound bite, but totally wrong. If a 7/11 franchise owner goes on a biting spree against customers, do you blame the CEO?

In today's business culture, yes, he probably takes blame. The narrative would be that bad screening happened under his watch.

Guys, just watched Brawl in Cell Block 99 ... Jeez...friggin brutal. Go watch it... incredible movie. Stars Vince Vaughn in his best role. Former boxer imprisoned and seeking revenge. It's like if Batman was in prison. Great, bone-breaking fight scenes. Check it out !

So is that an indictment of today's culture or the CEO?

Obviously Terry P and that Jezebel Kim ( WHo definitely isn’t into Terry for the great sex) got a bit too involved with their new toy when they bought the Sabres.
I look at the Sabres and to the owners and fans I preach patience. There will come a time when the management needs to start aggressively adding free agents and trading quality players from positions of depth to fill more urgent needs. Terry P jumped the gun on that with the Erhodd and Lieno signings. GMTM mis timed his shake up with Kane and Bogo for Stanford and Myers ++++ Trade and his trade for that poopty Goalie .so far this GM has been playing it cool. He made some very low risk moves for unknown commodities to mixed results, but who cares? They gave up (frank) all, unfortunately the Sabres didn’t do all that well with the Kane and RoR deals ( not horrible, but not real impactful for the long term).

My advice ( not that it’s worth Jack poop) is to keep evaluating the players, and keep letting them develop for the next 3 years. You’ll probably draft high for the next 2 drafts so don’t trade any 1sts or 2nds for a bit...and for God’s sake don’t get rid of Reinhardt and Risto just because they are real good and not real great. You need those guys.

You can do a Hell of a lot worse than Eichel, Dahlin and Risto as your core players. Maybe Mitts will fit in that group once he proves something in the NHL over 100 games or so....but regardless, you need to be patient when 2 of your top 4 talents have next to no NHL experience.

He clearly has the talent. He should be a top 5 Center in a few years. He hasn’t proven anything yet but I see him In the 2020-21 season rating something like this:

1. McDavid

2-5(no order) Crosby, Mackinnon, Eichel ,Mathews

6-10 (no order) Barkov, Draisaitl, malkin, Backstrom, Scheifle

11-15 ( N/o) stamkos, Tavares, Seguin, Heischer, Patrick

Yeah, Lalime sucked.

I'm not gonna wade into this debate too deeply. His major flaw was trusting people too much. He did it with Darcy and Brandon. He also gave everyone under him every tool possible to succeed. He's marketed Buffalo in a great way. Built the harborcenter, brought the combine and the draft here. No one in the hockey department wants for anything. The results have not been there. It sucks. The plan under Darcy was (frank)ed up by GMTM by frittering away assets. If Darcy had remained GM, and they brought GMTM in as AGM to run the draft and to push Darcy to occasionally take a risk, maybe we'd be better.

I don't blame Pegula. He has brought every resource possible to this team. What those under him did with those resources is the biggest problem imo.

- jcragcrumple

Sure, but then we'd be the Canes. There never would've been a tank. No top end talent. We'd have to have gotten lucky like they did this year to land Svechnikov.
