All a bunch of “maybes”
I’m not trading good assets for that
No way

If he’d agree to a reasonable extension (5yrs max, imo)... then ok
But that’ll up the trade cost on him too

- jdfitz77

Your entire hypothesis is based off of him wanting 8 for 8...which is the biggest maybe of them all

Evander got 7 for 7 because he is 3 years younger

It’s completely reasonable to assume that a 29 yr old is gonna want the max length possible
It’s gonna be his last long term contract

That’s not a maybe
It’s common sense sir

I have heard and read somewhere (dont ask me where cause I cant tell you)
That he feels he has been shortchanged during his careerv(underpaid) and he wants major money and term...with $7 -$8 per listed .l

Then why didn't Evander test free agency?

Montreal is such a mess maybe he would enjoy playing in Buffalo.

Maybe he would like to be the good veteran player playing with one of the best young centers in the league on an up and coming team.

Wasn’t our cap “not an issue at all” when the Kane extension was talked about??

I can’t figure out what the truth is anymore

I think they don't want to pay Pacioretty because he's "old".

I believe that was the Tavares option

Kane isn't here for reasons we know (he was traded) and reasons we assume (Kim wanted him gone).

Sure but where are you getting this $8 million a year from?

Also just because he wants it doesn't mean he will get it.

I want a $50K a year raise at work, but that doesn't mean I'll get it. I can ask for it all I want though.

Who’s saying the Cap is an issue now?
The issue is giving a long term deal to a guy who’s 29

I think it's pretty obvious that a player of his caliber would ask for that though, maybe not term, but certainly the value.

How many guys average 35 goals over a 4 year period before an injury plagued(and terrible team) season get less than $7M?

How many of those guys agreed to a $4.5 million a year contract?

He put himself in a tough spot especially with how contracts are going these days towards the older non super star players.

He is going to get paid pretty well, hell he will probably get $7 million a year.

But he isn't getting max term

Someone said that’s what his agent was asking for
I don’t remember what the source was

Regardless...
it makes sense that Patch would take a look at free agency rather than sign a 5yr extension
ESP with us
Maybe a team like Pitt could talk him into something like that?
But i can’t imagine we are at that point yet

Maybe not
But why would he SETTLE for less,
BEFORE seeing what other teams will offer?

It just makes sense for him to at least see
Not like a 5 year offer from the Sabres would go away
He’d still be able to get that from someone,
even if we decided to go a different direction

Gerbe...

Also it's been reported that the Canadiens won't even offer him a contract

Again you're the one proposing these maybe questions

What if he likes it here?

What if he likes playing with Jack?

What if the Sabres plan is something he gets behind?

What if he likes the city like almost every other player that has played here and wants to stay here?

Just because a player could wait to see what else is out there doesn't mean he will.

This is probably a crazy idea, but hear me out.

Idk what the Wild value Parise at, but:

Rather than Sign Pacioretty for let's call it 7x7 (his rumored price), would you move Okposo, Bailey/Girgensons and maybe a 3rd for Parise? Parise is at 7.5

The wild need to clear cap space if they want Zucker. Rather than adding a +30 player to Okposo in Pacioretty, you're swapping one for one. I know Parise has 2 more years than Okposo, but at 5 or 7 years, it's not a huge difference imo, especially considering Parise has a higher goal scoring ceiling still. Parise adds speed and a needed LW, and also adds some character.

Parise-Eichel-Reinhart
Sheary-Mitts-Thompson
Erod-Berglund-Baptiste
Wilson-Sobotka-Pominville

Not bad. If there are amnesty buyouts in the next CBA, you're probably buying out Okposo anyway, and the short-term benefit of Parise is higher imo

And it doesn’t make sense to basically BET the assets it would cost to trade for him that he would do a lesser term deal with us

It’s dumb

We aren’t going to the Cup this year
If they want him for 5yrs,
then wait till he’s a UFA so at least we aren’t giving up assets for a rental

If we were getting him at a low cost like Sheary, then ok
But what are we giving up?
A 1st and a prospect probably

Not worth the risk that he (likely) goes to UFA
