Oh man, that must hurt Leaf fans!
The fact that the Habs couldn't beat the Leafs farm team is meaningless because of "1967".

Nope. Just a fan who calls out sad trolls for their obvious Leaf obsession/envy, however pathetic and lame their attempts may be.

They were 3 million apart and arbitration lasted 6 hours

They aren't even close to a long term deal

- RoloTahmasee

Apparently you don't understand how negotiations work
Jets came in at 4 mil...Troubs camp in at 7 mil.
I told my wife the arbitrator will give him 5.5 mil for 1 or 2 years, and then they will eventually sign him long term.
Granted I wouldn't mind him on the Hawks.

If I'm Winnipeg here are my rules for trading Trouba:

1) No forwards 27 or older with a cap hit over 3M, especially none who are becoming a UFA.
2) Must be a higher tier prospect who may not be ready for a couple years or a young established player still on their ELC.

If Winnipeg is trading Trouba because of cap space limitations, why would they take on cap space? Expiring contracts are worthless. Might as well trade him for a 7th rounder if clearing space was the only factor.

I doubt they would do Barzal but I would be fine with Trouba/Petan for Pulock/Nelson.

1 year deal to reach UFA.

They could have signed him long term if they didn't sign garbage like Kulikov last summer.

Guy is useless, and has negative value at this point.

Kulikov was an awesome signing. He stabilized the left side for us last year. Was our second best left side defense after Morrissey. That signing has nothing to do with Trouba being offered a long-term deal. His agent has a history of forcing teams to trade his players (i.e. Kyle Turris, Ryan Johannson, etc...)

Also I don't think you understand the CBA. Trouba is still a RFA next year. Its also clear you don't watch many Jets games based on your comment.

Yeah I remember seeing him struggle in the defensive the zone and play 16-17 minutes a night.

I'm glad you think a crappy bottom pairing D-man stabilized your d-core.

Considering that we finished 2nd in the league and made the Western Conference Finals, I think the D corps did alright.

So Trouba trade "rumours"...

All BS. And will be until a deal is done. Remember how Stastny was signed by the Jets out of nowhere at the deadline? Even when Chevy HAD to trade Kane, he greased some damn good players from Buffalo... quietly. Winnipeg will not tip their hat. But here's my thought on how this worked out:
The Jets didn't want a long term contract for Trouba right now. If you some how get him for $4M, yeah... sign him to a max term! Crazy not to. But Chevy is just buying himself time to make financial adjustments within the roster. I love most of the guys on this team. But I understand the financial restrictions when your young players become good, and require to be paid as such. Tough decisions must be made. As of today, the Jets have 12M in cap space but still have a few RFA's to sign, most notably Josh Morrissey. I look at the Morrissey arbitration, and expect a similar approach as was (presumably) taken with Trouba. Team-friendly or arbitration for 1 year. If Morrissey is signed long term, Trouba would be in even more trade rumours than he is already in... and value would go down. It is possible Trouba gets moved, yes. But I don't think that is the preferred method. I'm not the GM, so I don't know where these players fall in their "good books". But Myers, Little, and Perrault are all contracts I'd like to see moved. Myers I love, but he will deserve more than Jets can afford to pay him next season. Little begins the first year (of six) on a grossly inflated contract. That was unnecesary. Perrault also earns a decent wage. I'm not saying the latter is overpaid, but the Jets have your talent that could take that spot on the roster and keep just as good of a team on the ice for about $3M cheaper. A penny saved is a penny earned (by someone else) this season. As of today, they have Blake Wheeler who will be UFA. He's gonna still need about $7M even if he has a down year. Kyle Connor will be RFA. Another 30+ goal season? The Jets can't afford that. If I'm Chevy, I ask Maurice to change his assignment a bit. Move Laine up and Connor down to 2nd line. The second line may have enough chemistry to be effective and produce, but hopefully slows enough to justify a long term deal for less than they'd be paying him if he needed a contract today. Speaking of Laine, that's gonna be $9M give or take... more after he has another 40+goal season. Then there's still Trouba (and potentially Morrissey) to add to the mix. For them to sign ALL of these guys next year, it's would cost about $30-35M. (Not including a few guys who play a lesser role which will also need contracts). My rough math shows the Jets will have about $33M which wouldn't leave any wiggle room down the road for Roslovic, Niku, etc. Jets want to continue the draft and develop model, so I expect 1-2 of our guys to disappear, Myers likely near the deadline for picks. If Trouba goes anywhere, the main piece in any trade will be a quality defensive PROSPECT and again, picks. I don't know why they signed Little to that contract, management sees something that I do not value the same way. Wish they'd trade that contract before it becomes more of a burden, but... they won't. Even if the cap goes up another $2-3M, I figure the jets would like to move out $6-10M for cheaper options. This would leave them flexibility to sign Karlsson (haha, I had to. Whoever is still reading has less to do than me right now). No, Jets shouldn't sign Karlsson. There is a scenario that could work for this which would help achieve the cap space and return pieces to Ottawa... but Karlsson may not like Manitoba. Anyhow, I'll save that for when one of these bloggers ask me to work for HB. Til then... goJETSgo
