Not interesting at all. What is interesting about making a bet where Flyers have to play good teams like PIT, WSH, CBJ, NJ, Maybe the Canes 8 times a season where the Leafs get to beat up Ottawa, Buffalo, Detroit, Montreal and since many people consider Hoffman to be a cancer Florida as well. Top 3 is basically a given in the Atlantic. Leafs are almost guaranteed more points with that level of competition in the division.

8 times a season?

You think a team plays 56 games of their 82 game schedule against divisional opponents?

Okay, so you're on record saying the Leafs will get more points than the Flyers, good. How about we just do playoff wins? That way division strength isn't as much of a factor. And it's quite likely that the Leafs will play Tampa or Boston in the first round. So I'm saying they still win more playoff games than Philly. Deal?
- Zezel

Nah. Too unpredictable. It a 50/50 bet with too many unforeseen variables. Who gets hurt?, for how long?, what trades are made?, who gets what at the TDL,? Who slumps?, who has a career year?, Whos wife is going to make threats to another players wife?

I tend to stay away from bets with my team. Im the same way in Fantasy Hockey. I try to keep away from Flyers players. Except Giroux. I watched other friends in my league fill up on their fav players and it doesnt work for them. One fills up with Leaf players, another Avs, another Habs. Avs fan was the only one to make playoffs and he was out first round.

Yeah someone refuted the Vegas odds... by pointing out that Vegas got it wrong last year.

They clearly have no idea how or why Vegas sets odds.

Basically, those odds say that Vegas anticipates a lot of money being put on the Leafs. This, in turn, means that the general consensus out there about the Leafs does not agree with our Flyers fans here.

- Aetherial

Well, they pointed out some teams that Vegas got wrong...they seemed to think bolding those teams would distract people from all the parts of the odds list that were quite accuate...lol

It's Flyers fan math. It is like Glak laughing about Leafs fans about max contract length a couple months ago..

Still waiting for Glak to step up. I laid out simple and solid reasons why the Leafs are considered by many to be contenders. Let's see if he has anything besides derp.

He's working on a novel-length post full of quotes from hockeybuzz that prove the Leafs aren't contenders.

Pretty much exactly my point also... you can guess, and come up with reasons why something might play out the way you think or hope... but at the end of the day sports has a lot to do with luck, injuries, unlikely performances etc.

I also don't bet on sports... but if i did, it wouldn't be on the Leafs, at least not for any money.

I lost faith in Glak a long time ago. This other lad isn't faring too well either to be honest.

On the plus side, we only have to play every other team outside the Atlantic once and 3 teams twice.

It only SEEMS like 8 games.

God I am sick of seeing Leafs Sens games.

At least Boston and Tampa are interesting games.

I don't understand what the big problem is. I don't like the Flyers as a team, but the years where they were good it wasn't a big threat to me personally to say they were contenders. Hell, until the last few years I thought the Habs had a chance to make a run. I didn't like it, but I don't look at Vegas odds with teams at the top and say there's absolutely no way that team is a contender. That's (frank)ed up.

what is your definition?

How are the Leafs NOT contenders?

See, that would have led to an actual hockey discussion/debate.

Instead, we get nothing from you except twisting our words, (PROVEN above). No counter argument, just lots of stupidity.

So, I laid out my argument. Where is yours?

- Aetherial

Now you hit the nail on the head.

A competitor that holds the belief of others that he/she/they have a legitimate chance to win the competition.
In the case of the NHL the Stanley Cup.

In the 21 years of 1994 -2015;
- top 4 team has won 18 times (86%)
- top 3 team has won 15 times (71%)
- top 2 team 12 times (57%)

Therefore, for this debate, I would recommend a Contender be a team highly expected to finish the regular season as a top 4 team.

With that, I think it is fair that the Laughs would certainly be considered a CONTENDER ... the money bets posted refle ts that as well.
Case closed.

I actually quite like the way the Flyers have developed the last couple years. It is really interesting how Couturier's game has come along. He was a guy I always wanted on the Leafs. I would love to have a young Dman like Provorov.

Why wouldnt it? No one expected Ottawa to be that bad. They lost in the Finals the year before. Did you not see Edmonton at 2nd?
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

No one who wasn't a Sens fan thought that. Anyone who looked at the reality of them being dragged along by EK and riding a hot goalie to the ECF knew better.

Sounds like we have a voljnteer country lined up to take all these asylum seekers.
Which entry point shall we bus them to...Vacouver or Toronto?

- IonSabres

Yeah, no other country in the whole world takes refugees or asylum seekers. Just America.

The whole post was in regards to taking children away from their families but you just go ahead and continue ignoring this cruel and illegal practice. It's not as if the Trump tribe had to scramble to correct it after massive bi-partisan backlash.

Once again, this was not something that previous administrations practiced and now the current one is only just starting to see the consequences, political, legal and humanitarian, of it.

So, by betting odds, it seems that they are contenders.

But, from your assessment above, you could also make the argument that the Leafs aren't contenders.

Tampa, Washington, Pittsburgh (maybe), Boston (maybe) Vegas (Maybe), Winnipeg, Nashville... there are 4 teams I believe are better than the Leafs and 3 maybe's.

So by that yardstick, I would say the Leafs aren't contenders.

I won't bother to agree or disagree with your "yardstick" because it doesn't matter and you supported your argument with numbers, so my agreement or not isn't really relevant. It is an interesting take that can actually lead to agreement/disagreement/discussion, so thanks for that.

Okay, let's make it more interesting. I'll bet you account deletion that the Leafs both get more points in the regular season than Philly, AND they win more playoff games. If they tie in points and playoff wins we'll call it a push.

Dude, he's a Trumptard. Why make a bet with someone who you can be sure won't keep his word?

You can't reason with the unreasonable. Just look at the mental gymnastics he employs while deflecting from his embarrassing troll fail regarding the CBA a few years ago.

I see a big similarity with the Leafs in one regard... Question marks in goal.

I know some Leafs fans believe Andersen is a top 1/3 goalie in this league. I think he is barely average and has shown he can poop the bed in key games.

I think we disagree there about Andersen, I thought he stole a bunch of games for the Leafs and was their MVP all year. We'll see, right? At least they have some other goalies in they system for once, as unproven as they are. At any rate a Leafs vs. Flyers series would be really entertaining.
