Jack Johnson needs to prove he's better than Hunwick before we can declare Hunwick addition by subtraction, because as bad as Hunwick was, he's probably better than anyone we have in WBS. Our organizational defensive depth is bad. - Victoro311
At worst it's a lateral move IMO. I think Hunwick stuck out like a sore thumb last year with how badly he played. Just an awful player for us. Plus, like you said earlier... I think you can do a lot worse than Ruhwedel as a 6th D.

Interesting trade proposal on capfriendly: Jarry and Simon for Sam Bennett. IMO not enough going to Calgary
Separate team: brassard, Dea, Maatta for Ekholm and Bonino
I don’t know if either of these teams would think they’d be getting enough in these trades |

All your star players are a year older and the roster as a whole is worse than last year.
Plan the parade. - Feds91Stammer
Our team is better starting off this year than last year. We had mckegg/rowney and Johnson centering our 3rd and 4th lines ffs |

So far we've added:
#73 Jack Johnson
#7 Matt Cullen
#38 Derek Grant
Out of the door:
#43 Sheary
#22 Hunwick
#34 Kühnhackl
#37 Rowney
Coming from WBS:
#41 Sprong
I definitely think we are in a better shape now. - Barnaby36
We lose the best forward out of that group and we are in better shape? |

This one is just bad for the Penguins. Pass.
As for the Sam Bennett trade I'd be insterested. |

Wait and see. Sheary will not be missed. Period. Specially in the playoffs. |

I think it will be fairly lateral as well. My point is that I don't think we upgraded Hunwick and the quality of our blue line remains unchanged. |

Grant, 28, is coming off a career year with the Anaheim Ducks, where he produced 12 goals, 12 assists and 24 points in 66 games. The versatile Grant ranked third on the Ducks by winning 53.1 percent of his draws. He averaged 49 seconds of shorthanded ice time per game, and 37 seconds on the power play, where he had three man-advantage tallies.
Grant, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, has spent parts of six NHL seasons with Ottawa, Calgary, Buffalo, Nashville and Anaheim, totaling 12 goals, 19 assists and 31 points in 152 regular-season contests.
Big guy just like Sheahan. I think I remember Grant playing for Nashville. Not a bad pick up for the 13th forward spot. |

The assumption that any of them are better than Sheary is wrong. |

I was a fan in 2016. There was however no excuse for his crappy skating and lack of ability to stay on his feet after that. Good riddance to him, you only get so many kicks at the can. |

No thanks from our side to the Nashville deal, Sam Bennett is on his way to bustville. Calgary might pull the trigger on that one

So a fully rested injury free team starting this season isn't as good as the team that was riding it's how many playoffs game after winning b2b Cups, injury concerns with 3 or more top players, Brassard arriving from the trade deadline & Connor Sheary playing top line?
No.
I don't get the Grant signing unless there is a trade in the wind. (frank), we could have signed so many other better players with that 650k......... |

Just Fromm last blog.
Yes forgot about the lockout.
Doesn't change Eric Staal & his scoring record though, & saying he's elite because he had 1 really great year definately isn't hall of fame material.
I'd be interested in hearing what others with more experience than me think an elite player is & why. It's summer, what else is there to talk about? Taxes?? |
