You can bet your bottom dollar Arizona will offer sheet him . I am guessing if the cap goes up or even stays at its current level the offer will be 13 million per season 7 seasons . Will the Leafs be in the position to match? Also taxes are a lot lower in Arizona. The move will keep the Franchise in Arizona

Quietly while no one was looking Arizona has actually been building a good core. Offer sheeting Matthews may be the step that puts them into the next tier. Business wise bringing home the Hometown hero back home especially to a non traditional hockey market is a no brainer. A great player from the desert will make hockey explode there. I am not a fan of offer sheets but this one make sense.

Toronto fans can relate to bringing home a hometown hero . They just did it. It did not cost them what it will Arizona . But the payout for Arizona will be huge and keep the franchise there

You may be right. Matthews may leave. Buffalo fans will rejoice. It will be a shame, but no player is bigger than the team. We will take the four first rounders and move on. This is doubtful though. The Leafs aren't run at the whim of the owner's trophy wife

No one Trolling . Toronto just benefited from a player wanting to go home and fulfill his childhood dreams to lead his favorite team to a cup . Do you think Matthews never had that dream as a kid to lead the Coyotes to a cup ? Now who is dreaming. Like I said before I do not like offer sheets . But this one makes too much sense. And Frankly Matthews coming home and a fan base being ignited is the only way I see that franchise staying in Arizona.

Betting Body parts ? Not every player in the NHL dreams of playing for the Leafs. Bettman wants that franchise staying put . This is the only thing that can secure the franchise in Phoenix .If Toronto wants to prevent it better resign the kid now. Take the picks and be happy with them.

Guess you will be known as one nut if the Leafs do not get a deal done before next July 1. You need to take your Leaf fan emotion out of it . Would not surprise me if Bettman is helping them behind the scenes. He has putt a lot of the league's money into keeping this team in Arizona .
