So no takers in saying Eric Staal is elite or not?
Also, any analytics guys want to have a go at what I asked matchett man about trying to use analytics to predict a players season - any player, also what analytics says about Tavares season coming up with the Leaves? |

If he wasn't, he was pretty damn close to being it around the year Carolina won the cup. He had a 100 point reg season and 28 points in 25 playoff games the year they won. Those are pretty elite numbers to me. |

His scoring stats are very impressive as he's kept them up his whole career. Still, is that elite or just very good. |

I don’t think you can call him elite now, but he certainly was at one point and is a borderline HoF’er |

He had 1 really really good year (won Stanley), & a few ok years either side of that. From there he's been consistent but not exceptional. As I said - & im honest here, trying to differentiate between elite & very good seems hazy. He's been very consistent throughout but that doesn't make you elite does it? 1 really great year where your team wins the Cup could be seen as an up year especially seeing either side of that he wasn't even ppg couldn't it?
Edit: Just realised he played in the AHL the year before the Cup win. I think the Cup year was just an up year. Interesting that though. |

Played in the AHL the year before & wasn't close to a ppg player the year after the Cup. He's been a very consistent scorer though from there. |

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed.... Center, Derek Grant
Strange signing to me as it's a one-way contract. I'm thinking this might raise the chances that both Brass and Cullen are moving to wing. This would now mean two guys are the odd men out. |

I think it's insurance, but I do think it means we will see less of ZAR and Simon.

Lol dude that 2004-2005 season was the lockout season. No NHL hockey was played. Come on, man. This is basic hockey history. |

Better than opening the year with McKegg. Rutherford is probably haunted by that decision and is making sure center depth is covered. A lot easier to sign a center now than trade for an overpriced one at the deadline |

Kunitz is one of those guys I wish could retire a Penguin. He was really, really great for us for so long.
considering what he's signing for these day, not sure why they didn't bring him back |

Nothing wrong the cheap low-risk/high-reward depth. If he had a two-way contract I'd feel a little better, but my concern is now becoming roster decisions. Maybe Cullen has something left in the tank, maybe he doesn't, but he didn't come to back to the Pens to be a healthy scratch.
If Brass plays LW, that already raises chances of Rust or Sprong playing the 4th line which is weird. If both Brass and Cullen play LW, it could mean someone like Sprong isn't even in the lineup.
I'm hoping Grant will be a healthy scratch most nights. |

Yeah this is the second year in a row where keeping him/bringing him back made a lot of sense for the Pens. Don't really know why we haven't done so. The guy is a 2016 Matt Cullen level 4th liner at this point in his career. |
