Trouba would be awesome and he would definitely move up to the first pairing with Keith. Also they didn't bring in Manning to be a 7th D man as part of a rotation. Besides don't we have enough 7th d man from the left side already? LOL
- D2D

Didn’t Trouba just sign?

Edit: Never mind, it was Dumba that just signed

I can see him making the roster this year. Watched his camp videos. He looks smooth and calm. Will have to see what he looks like with a monster forecheck coming after him, but the skill is there.
- z1990z

I can see him making it as well. He does have a couple more tests coming up though with the Rookie Tournament, training camp and pre-season games.

If he does make the team that will mean Forsling heads back to minors or one of Gustafsson, Forsling, Murphy or Rutta are moved.

I can see Rutta being shipped out or Murphy on a bigger deal.

I'm really hoping the Jets don't come away with a deal. I've been like continuously monitoring that situation haha, a deal has to be agreed on by tomorrow I believe.

Solid prospect camp with a lot of great video coverage. It was great to check out the new guys on the block, as well ss how others have progressed.

I will have a wrap up Sunday or Monday, aling with a couple things I'm hearing.

Yeah, Trouba is RD so he would probably play with Keith. Trouba is a wrecking ball type player and I would love to have him on the Hawks but I don't think he's really a top pairing guy, at least not on a team with better RD's than the Hawks currently have. He's asking for $7M in arbitration and I think that's about $1.5M - $2.0M more than he's worth. It will be interesting to see what happens if it gets to arbitration.

The observations from Kuc are quite disturbing if true. Hey McEgo the bloom is off the rose. Wake up
- TJYTJY

Certainly could be true, but I wonder?

How much money did they have to sign FAs?

Its a weird thing in Chicago, all pro teams are always said to not be able to attract FAs.

From what I can tell, FAs sign most of the time where they can get the most money.

And I would add one question to Kuc, who?

Nope, no deal in place prior to hearing. Jets have 48 hour to negotiate, that started yesterday, so they have to agree on a deal by Sunday I believe...

Dumba, Trouba, they all sound the same! LOL

I'm a native Chicaoan and I think the downtown area and skyline is world class. However, I've gotta think others have quite a negative opinion of the city when it is known as the murder capitol of the country.

We need another move. Stan needs to find a way to improve this team.

If Matt Dumba gets 6 freakin million and isn't fully developed, You have to think Trouba is going want out of Winnipeg IF the arbitrator says 5.5 for two years is the market.

Last year at the traverse city tournament Fortin was the fastest player on the squad and looked like he was going to make the team. I was surprised when he did not make the team. Debrincat looked like a little kid out there but you could tell he knew how to put the puck in the net. Let Fortin play in the top 6 he will be good.

Most interesting insight from Kuc - apparently, StanBo was turned down by a number of the FAs/agents to whom he was making overtures.

Hawks have an awesome culture, but no chance to win a Cup. We all knew it, but maybe that's why Stan isn't able to make an offseason splash.

- pdx2ord

I don't like the analysis when it bends reality: Stan wasn't looking for longer term deals or spending more than around 2 mil - 3 mil short term.

Like everyone. I keep hearing Edmonton, Toronto, Pittsburgh and Winnipeg have already inscribed their names on the next decade of Cups.

Did those UFAs..." StanBo was turned down by a number of the FAs/agents " sign with the teams above...or sign longer deals with teams not in the list.

Everyone said he was overpaid and rejoiced in that trade for the cap space
- Abadseed

As Vinny said he and other young players had no idea what their role was from night to night period to period .Q blender is no way to treat young players .Benching and press box duty for minor mistakes when Q has not given these players any idea what he wants from them is just as destructive . Q must go before he can do anymore damage .Allow Stan to get a coach who is on the same page ,and with a less ego then Q has shown since his big contract .

Not that I think he'll be a #7, but many people have said a phrase like that about a player and it be wrong. Just last year "they did not sign Bouma to be a 13th forward" - guess is technically true since he was in Rockford lol but still.

Yeah, A lot more than speed is involved in growing a game...I just put up an initial top four rounds of the 2019 Draft on Draftsite, and I included this kid out of the Q I was totally surprised didn't get taken THIS year, Justin Ducharme...
to me he is a really a super skating just growing into his own player. He will play with Chicoutimi Saguenéens next season and will get drafted.

Fortin and Ducharme are kids that seem to get the process and have so many of the attributes TO succeed. They just have to put in the work, and get puck luck and start seeing the results and gaining confidence.

It is an easier path when the NHL team can pick low enough to get that ready made big bodies fat skilled scorer type...but that luxury doesn't exist after the top 8 or so picks....so you have to try and see the upside and take chances.

I think it is a whole lot easier and a bit less difficult if you are not a young defender...b/c game after game they are under the microscope, forced to listen an watch video, constantly be tutored...yoiu better have the mind set to soak the learning enviroment or it can sour you fast..

I just read where Kyle Woodlief said he liked the Hawk draft because of it's balance and that after the first round it was a "nothing flashy, workman like effort that brought the hawks a bunch of solid prospects, 5 of his his top 96. and how Beaudin was a favorite and he didn't have the canhonnes to put him in his first round, and how he is going to be a great pick.

Yeah, manning is here to bring "honesty and balancer" against the teams they feel it will be necessary and maybe if a Rockfor or kid defender steps up, Manning spends time in Kempny's press box seat.

I honestly hope Manning turns out to be a solid pick up, and I think they'll give him an opportunity to be good. I just also am not holding my breath and I wouldn't be all that surprised if he's is outplayed by a kid (Forsling, Hillman maybe). Just cause they signed or traded for a guy doesn't mean much though, esp when it comes to d-men, as we've seen over the years.

I keep pulling for Fortin but he may be one of those guys who has the tools but no toolbox. Watching the scrimmage yesterday he was probably the most noticeable forward on the ice, in a good way. Without being there to watch in person I couldn't iso on him so I have no idea how well or poorly he played away from the puck or out of sight, but he looked a notch faster/quicker than anyone who was on the ice at the same time as him - all game long.

Hopefully he starts out well in Rockford and gains some confidence and than parlays that into a call up at some point.

the only thing the hawks have that the jets would take for Trouba is likely Jokiharju. And Chicago needs players with that entry level contract as bad as Winnipeg does

To be fair to Bouma, he played every game from season start until Feb 19th.

Yeah, Forsling is kind of the forgotten guy with all the hoopla about Jokiharju, Boqvist, and the other young d-men at prospect camp. He probably doesn't have as high a ceiling as Joki but he's probably more ready for an NHL role. Both Forsling and Joki are behind a numbers game with veteran RDs and LDs already slotted into the lineup, but I think Forsling has as good a chance as Joki to get a spot in the lineup this season.

He has a great chance to play every night if he can solidify his game and be consistent. He was great at times and other times he was the worst Hawks D-man. There is so much to like about what he can do and hopefully he just works hard to defend better.

You got that right, look no further than what the coach did with Kempney and Trevor Daley so I guess everything is a crapshoot when it comes to that guy. Be just our luck we would get Jacob Trouba or a defenseman of the same, and the coach would jack him off also.
