And now, because I have time to kill, I haven't done one of these in a while and because we've talked a lot recently about potential Flyer's rookies in the upcoming season; here is my top 10 all time Flyer rookie seasons:

HONORABLE MENTIONS
Bobby Clarke 69-70
Behn Wilson 78-79
Pelle Eklund 85-86
Ivan Provorov 16-17

10. Peter Zezel 84-85
Zezel put up 15 goals and 60 points as a rookie and was big on the pp and at ES. His ES play gave him the nod over Eklund for the last spot.

9. Pelle Lindbergh 82-83
Pelle struggled after the all star break, but up til then he was playing as well as any goalie in the league. The 82-83 squad could score but weren't always the best defensive team and gave up a lot of chances the other way. Lindbergh's overall numbers though were very good for that era.

8. Sergei Bobrovsky 10-11
Bob had a great rookie season for a guy who barely spoke any English and had the pressure of being the #1 goalie as a rookie.

7. Ron Flockhart 81-82
Fans of a certain age (aka old) will remember the fun of Flocky hockey. Flockhart was a dynamic offensive player who put up a very impressive 33 goals and 72 points that season.

6. Shayne Gostisbehere 15-16
Ghost was an offensive machine that season, especially on the pp and in OT. 46 points in only 64 games for a rookie D in today's NHL is extremely impressive.

5. Dave Poulin 83-84
Though older than most rookies, Poulin's season was still a fantastic one. Playing both LW and center, he stepped right into a top 6 and top 4 PK role and put up an outstanding 31 goals and 76 points that season.

4. Brian Propp 79-80
Propp came right in at age 20 and immediately moved into the Flyers top 6. His wrist shot was lethal from day one and he put up 34 goals and 75 points that season.

3. Bill Barber 72-73
Barber was robbed of the Calder that season ((frank) you Vickers) but looking back, it was really one hell of a start to a fantastic career. In a relatively low scoring league, his 30 goals and 64 points were very impressive. Plus he stepped right in on both the top pp and pk units almost from day one.

2. Mikael Renberg 93-94
Renberg was an absolute beast that season putting up an outstanding, and still Flyers rookie record, 82 points that year. If not for a horrible abdominal injury which seriously impacted his explosiveness for the rest of his career, he likely would have been a potential hall of fame player. Yes, he was that good.

1. Eric Lindros 92-93
Playing on a team that was woefully thin on overall depth, the big guy put up a ridiculous 41 goals and 75 points in only 61 games. From day one, he was not only a legit franchise center, but he stepped right in and physically dominated the NHL. There has never been, either before or since, a more frightening package of skill, size and strength in NHL history.

It's funny how, not once did I say the Leafs are bad or suck, but because I will not agree that signing Tavares automatically makes them cream of the crop of the NHL means I am "butthurt" or jealous.

Love it.

The only thing worse than a Leafs fan when the Leafs are losing are Leafs fans when the team is winning.

When they go out in the first round to Boston or Tampa, I'm just going to head to the Laffs thread to bask in their shocked misery.

It will be glorious.

The best part is I WANT the Leafs to be good. I have been waiting for this rivalry for years now...well ever since JR toasted Belfour up high. Flyer fans including myself are super spoiled for sure. Ok Toronto had 7 more wins and 7 more points than the Flyers, but overall I would consider the Flyers season to be, for lack of a better word, disappointing. Even though I was extremely happy to see them make the playoffs.

On the other hand, this past season was Toronto's best season EVER...let that soak in...EVER. For the Flyer fans, very much a meh season for them with a 1st round exit. For them...best ever. I truly want to feel sorry for them, but it's hard to do...really hard.

We need to create a counseling session for the rest of the NHL teams on how to deal with Leaf fans.

To this day I still do the Propp salute after scoring a goal or right after sex.

I don't think that will happen. I am one of those who think that signing JT made them markedly better.

(frank) em, I hope they suck forever. I'm looking forward to the news story in Toronto that starts with: "Today was a sad day in Leafs nation as the last living person to witness the Leafs winning a Stanley Cup, Harry Dildo, died today at the age of 105. Mr. Dildo was only 4 when the Leafs last won Lord Stanley's Cup way back in 1967 and according to family, his dying words were 'Tavares was supposed to save us'. Funeral services are pending"

I don't mind saying that I was spoiled being able to watch Lindros on a regular basis. As a Flyer fan, he was everything I wanted in a player. Could take a game over and dominate. Could knock the living poop out of someone. Would drop the gloves when necessary. Just great hockey in those years. No one else like him. So Glad 88 is in the rafters.

Maybe, but there D group is nothing special and I still think Tampa is a better overall team. I really don't see them making it out of the Atlantic.

I agree, though they still have some issues. I don't expect one of their prospects to immediately replace JVR. They are certainly set up to be one of the top teams in the eastern conference for a while.

Yup, without a doubt. From 1993 to 1999 he was, without a doubt, the most dominant force in the NHL. His overall numbers during that time frame:

222 goals, 525 points in only 370 games and an aggregate +149. Add to that dominance both physically and in the faceoff circle. He was one of a kind.

Their defense is not of a championship caliber hence Game 7 of last years opening round with the Bruins.

As of now, Jori Lehterä seems to be the Flyers default fourth-line center option if Scott Laughton bumps up to the third line. Weal is also pretty clearly below Laughton on the depth chart.

Actually Glak, plenty of non-Leafs fans are coping just fine. They are generally people who can actually read though, so yeah, sorry dude.
