The thing about the Flyers depth this coming year is the abundance of options. The lines will be changed throughout the year, no such thing as static lines in the NHL. The fact the top 9 can be switched around so much and still look good is very exciting. Not many teams can do that.
- Glak18

yep I agree. JVR signing gave them a lot of flexibility.

Last year Konecny started the season on a line with Filppula and Weise

The great news about signing JVR, even though I am not a huge fan of him, he doesn't have to be the answer....just more depth that hopefully contributes 30-35 goals.

He has the daunting task of replacing the production of Val Filppula. Imagine if we still had Schenn though!!!

And now, because I have time to kill, I haven't done one of these in a while and because we've talked a lot recently about potential Flyer's rookies in the upcoming season; here is my top 10 all time Flyer rookie seasons:

HONORABLE MENTIONS
Bobby Clarke 69-70
Behn Wilson 78-79
Pelle Eklund 85-86
Ivan Provorov 16-17

10. Peter Zezel 84-85
Zezel put up 15 goals and 60 points as a rookie and was big on the pp and at ES. His ES play gave him the nod over Eklund for the last spot.

9. Pelle Lindbergh 82-83
Pelle struggled after the all star break, but up til then he was playing as well as any goalie in the league. The 82-83 squad could score but weren't always the best defensive team and gave up a lot of chances the other way. Lindbergh's overall numbers though were very good for that era.

8. Sergei Bobrovsky 10-11
Bob had a great rookie season for a guy who barely spoke any English and had the pressure of being the #1 goalie as a rookie.

7. Ron Flockhart 81-82
Fans of a certain age (aka old) will remember the fun of Flocky hockey. Flockhart was a dynamic offensive player who put up a very impressive 33 goals and 72 points that season.

6. Shayne Gostisbehere 15-16
Ghost was an offensive machine that season, especially on the pp and in OT. 46 points in only 64 games for a rookie D in today's NHL is extremely impressive.

5. Dave Poulin 83-84
Though older than most rookies, Poulin's season was still a fantastic one. Playing both LW and center, he stepped right into a top 6 and top 4 PK role and put up an outstanding 31 goals and 76 points that season.

4. Brian Propp 79-80
Propp came right in at age 20 and immediately moved into the Flyers top 6. His wrist shot was lethal from day one and he put up 34 goals and 75 points that season.

3. Bill Barber 72-73
Barber was robbed of the Calder that season ((frank) you Vickers) but looking back, it was really one hell of a start to a fantastic career. In a relatively low scoring league, his 30 goals and 64 points were very impressive. Plus he stepped right in on both the top pp and pk units almost from day one.

2. Mikael Renberg 93-94
Renberg was an absolute beast that season putting up an outstanding, and still Flyers rookie record, 82 points that year. If not for a horrible abdominal injury which seriously impacted his explosiveness for the rest of his career, he likely would have been a potential hall of fame player. Yes, he was that good.

1. Eric Lindros 92-93
Playing on a team that was woefully thin on overall depth, the big guy put up a ridiculous 41 goals and 75 points in only 61 games. From day one, he was not only a legit franchise center, but he stepped right in and physically dominated the NHL. There has never been, either before or since, a more frightening package of skill, size and strength in NHL history.

Well Schenn would be nice as the 3C, but realistically his ice time wouldn't be the same as previous Flyer years and definitely not STL ice time. So if he was still on the team, his production would probably be disappointing for most Flyer fans AND no Frost or O'Brien.

Actually no Frost or Farabee, the Blues pick was #14

Exactly. He doesn't have to live with being that guy that got drafted after Patrick Kane and try to live up to being a franchise type guy. He's not that and was never that player.

What he does have to do is score goals, which I think he can manage.

I loved watching Ron Flockhart play, but can you imagine if he had stuck around long enough to be on the Mike Keenan Flyers?

Keenan would have had him murdered and his remains condensed into a practice puck.

Getting paid 7 million a year here doesn't exactly scream under the radar haha. I give it roughly 10 games before the same people that hated him before continue their BS

I don't think you're looking at the situation correctly. If we still had him, not only would we score additional points, but most importantly, we would be able to trade him again.

In lala Leafs land, they've won the last 12 Cups.

Their fans and Darcy (frank)ing Tucker are why I will always hate the Leafs.

It's funny how, not once did I say the Leafs are bad or suck, but because I will not agree that signing Tavares automatically makes them cream of the crop of the NHL means I am "butthurt" or jealous.

Love it.

When they go out in the first round to Boston or Tampa, I'm just going to head to the Laffs thread to bask in their shocked misery.

It will be glorious.
