Yup, and I would love to see something like the following going into the 2019 playoffs:
Provorov-Ghost
Sanheim-Myers
Morin or Hagg-AMac
depth guy: Folin
traded: Gudas
My PK pairs would be:
Provorov-Morin or Hagg
AMac*-Myers
*yeah AMac would get a little PK time, but not much as Provorov would likely play the first 1:30 or so of the kill.
Going even further, they would then hopefully move AMac after next season and go into 19-20 with:
Provorov-Myers
Morin-Ghost
Sanheim-Hagg
It would really be something to have an all homegrown D! - BiggE
Hakstol has had a forward line and defense pairing that basically do a ton of heavy lifting on the defensive end. Like their job is to just get the poop beat out of them. I wonder if it is smarter to let that happen and try to find guys that tread water in that role, or to balance it out more. I just know that whether it's Laughton, Lehtera, Filppula, Manning, AMac, Gudas...they're all getting pooped on

So what's the over/under on how many forward prospects play in the 18/19 season? I'll set it at 4 1/2.
Looking at the possible 3rd and 4th lines to start the season, I'll take the over. - Pelle31Forever
if you're talking about players who've yet to play a regular season game, I think Myers and NAK are the only ones I'd count on seeing. There's a very small possibility that Frost makes the team, and you could see Hart and Rubstov get a cup of coffee due to injuries.
But I'd take the under.
Edit: I do the read yes |

3. Been married for 26 years, so I honestly can't remember! - BiggE
26 years is well done. I just hit 41 years. Divided almost evenly between two women. Haven't hit more than 22 in a row. 👍 |

Agreed. Honestly, if you are hanging your hat on being a better player than Lehtera, Weal or Weise, you're probably not going to have a long NHL career. - BiggE
agreed but did the Flyers have to the personnel to give Weal the best chance at success? I personally believe we need to see Weal with the right line for an extended period of time, that should give us a good look at we have. |

LOL, fair point, but I didn't see too many other options as I don't think Hextall was going to trade, nor Hak regularly sit, their only RH Dman last season. I do think Gudas will be made available as soon as they feel Myers is ready for a full time job and, IMO, the sooner the better! - BiggE
as soon as Gudas starts to play better, they will trade him, they should. If he doesnt they will have to dump him at the deadline. |

we have an excess of players. Jori Lehera has no upside, and is gone after the season. I'd play Weal as the 4th center over him. If Weal comes back with a good yr, he is tradable, though you can let both walk after the season is over. |

Re:Weal having more points than Lehtera, Leier and Weise combined.
Great he outscored guys who shouldn't even be on a winning NHL roster to begin with. Per minutes played Weal's numbers last season are not impressive any way you cut it. Like I said he's a fringe player. If he could kill penalties he'd be a far more useful player. - hereticpride
Per minutes played his 5on5 numbers weren't impressive. However they were higher than Raffl and Filppula, and not far off Simmonds. And it's quite possible they will be better in 18-19.
http://www.naturalstattri...=&td=&tgp=82&lines=single
Lehtera and Leier killing penalties actually makes them even less useful than Weise since they were genuinely bad at it (and on the PP), and at least Weise wasn't regularly hurting the team in special teams situations. And there are plenty of other better PKing forwards available. Couturier, Raffl, Laughton, Simmonds, Giroux, and Lindblom just to name six. |

Thats a really good line. I think I still take the under. NAK, Vorobyev, Vecchione, maybe Frost are the only ones I think have a shot at seeing time. |

hereticpride :
Weal seems like a player who is just a notch or two above a tweener to me. With higher end prospects making their way closer and
closer and adding a clearly a better winger in JVR I don't see where he fits. I also think putting him at center in the NHL would be disastrous.
If the team had some better PK'ers over what they have now they could probably justify keeping him over Raffl but that's just not the case.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Raffl is clearly better then Weal even more so in 2018/19 being a contract year and UFA
status. He is the only LW who can do decent defense.
Plus he will profit most from JVR and Lindblom and even Chrristian Folin
Biggest problem in Flyers lineup is a Top 4 right shooting D-man
Hopefully Gudas and Folin are good next year for a 3rd pairing making Raffl a perfect pivot man around the boards in a 3rd line role
Plus I m sure he wouldnt mind to be traded to Arizona in February to be with his buddy Michael Grabner |

I'd cross my fingers hoping that it's still the case because Myers has made Gudas expendable out of camp. |

If Folin is accumulating any stat other than pounds of popcorn eaten, you may as well move the team to Houston. Cause we have a problem.

Agreed but still if he gets the minutes like Manning it should help Raffl and also Lindblom. And hopefully Gudas will play better as well |

Yeah, but he won't, because he's the 7th defenseman. Manning was an everyday player. |

It's not rare for some of those tweeners to go on and turn into something for their 2nd/3rd teams, tho (Marchessault, Perreault, Letestu, Namestnikov, Dadonov, etc), so you don't wanna pull the plug until you're somewhat sure.
Weal's a good enough hockey player that the idea of dumping him over a simple number's game would give me pause. Let him battle it out in camp, at least. |

His only consistent chance to produce last season was on a line with a gimpy Wayne Simmonds and a near deceased Val Filppula |
