And for those reasons is why I said I’d take him but right now him alone is not worth Trouba. Remember this whole “islanders make mega pitch for Trouba” was not started by jets fans. Pulock and a throw in I don’t think would be considered “mega”. Jets don’t need forwards so not sure what islanders would offer then. - Ross77
Of course not just a stupid ek rumor but in all honesty it has been circulating around here before ek mentioned it. We’re obviously looking for defense not sure who we would give up to a team looking for the same thing? Pulock finished the season as our best defenseman not sure how much you have watched the kid? Started off rocky under an inept coach and finished pretty awesome with a terrible team. There’s a ton of potential there doubt he’s going anywhere especially with a real coach coming in. Not sure who we would give up? Love to have Trouba but I don’t see a match. |

And I get all that, I’ve actually watched him since he played for Brandon. I travel to Brandon monthly for work and love checking out Wheat King games. If the Jets are in fact forced to trade Trouba possibly Dobson plus would be considered but again not sure you’d want to do that or if the Jets would since they are win now. |

Quick Poll: What number do you think the arbitrator awards this afternoon?
I'll start.....$5.65 MM and Chevy opts for one year.

I would do it but don’t think the jets would for reasons you mentioned. The team is there already and would want a player that provides immediate help. Tough situation really for a team trading a good defenseman needing the same back in return doesn’t usually work like that... Yeah you see a team like Montreal trade a player in subban for Weber but that’s certainly not the norm. |

Wanting Myers to stay and Trouba to go is a mistake in my book but hey, as fans we are allowed to have opinions. |

Overhardt is doing a great job of potentially ruining Trouiba's career. First the lockout when Trouba just wanted to play hockey and then a 6-hour arb hearing and this award. Its a gamble. What if Trouba has a couple of concussion this season and becomes a concern to other GM's. Lots of careers have ended that way. What if he gets another 25 game injury. Rumors will start that he's soft. Downside risks vs maybe 1/2 million upside is just not worth the gamble, all IMHO.
Chevy's probably pissed. Time to trade Trouba ! He obviously does not want to play here despite his statements at season end. |

I believe Tanev deserves more than the $1.15 MM he got. Nonetheless, he was willing to sign for that much. He is part of one of the top five defensive lines in the NHL along with Copp and Lowry. A great price for a player a Tanev's caliber. |

I published another team on cap-friendly (Winnipeg Jets - Sticking to the plan). With Armia, Mason and Stasny moved and Trouba's deal not being long-term I have 24 on the roster and 5m cap space left.
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/
Now I really think it's worth looking into seeing if a deal can be worked out involving Trouba+ and Karlsson. It seems that Trouba is unlikely to be around for 2019-20 anyway, makes it more worth a risk on Karlsson for a year. We can save Eugene some money for this year, Ottawa gets a little younger with a high caliber NHL defenseman (and pick/picks). Jets get a rare Norris caliber player coming in to a team in their cup window without pressure on him to be sensational (pun intended). There will be new cap decisions in 2019-2020 with Wheeler, Laine and Karlsson needing contracts.
Also: Jets could really use a right hand shot on the 4th line. |

I'd rather keep Trouba around and save the cap space for Tyler Seguin at the trade deadline when the Stars fall short again.

Agreed. People can throw all the advanced stats they want. He averaged just short of 22 minutes per night, good for 2nd on the teams toi, and puts up 3 goals and a career high 32 points after 5 seasons (albeit injury riddled). This guys has massive value that I believe is over-rated. Winnipeg fans should be happy, as a solid return for Trouba is immanent. |

as a fan firmly on the fence about the value of so called advanced stats I will say in Trouba's defense that his offensive output numbers are lower as a direct result of not playing the PP and being used primarily in a shutdown role. His 5v5 numbers are first rate, switch Trouba's 3 and Myers' 17 PP points to provide a ballpark of where Trouba's production would be with PP time. Trouba would be much closer to 45 points on an injury shortened season.
Injuries and leadership reduce his value. |

I think Chevy will send him to hockey purgatory in Buffalo (like Kane), or maybe Islanders, Ottawa, Carolina etc. Somewhere that will give him time to think of all that could have been with the Jets.

having the space makes a lot of great options at the deadline or sooner. My thought is that if Karlsson is the target, now is the time.
If Roslovic isn't ready we will have opportunity at the deadline for a significant pick up.

Don't dispute what you are putting down. But trouba was second TOI this season and had 3 goals. PP time or not, I dont see his numbers elevating into the 40's on another team. He is a top 4 D for sure, but I would be weary of people who think he is a true #1 D that deserves big $$$. He is 5 seasons deep and has just 32 points as a career high. Morrissey is a defensive D who puts up comperable numbers and will cost far less. Niku has shown huge promise, and Poolman may very well develope into a top 4 D as well. Jets are great in depth and should move on from this Drama with a very hefty return. |
|
|
|
Jets should start the season with these D pairs;
Morrisey Poolman
Niku buff
Myers Trouba
Morrow Chairot
Let’s honestly see what Poolman and Niku could do in those spots with those partners and maybe, it will give us some insight into life without both Myers and Trouba would look like. If it backfires, it backfires but I’d rather know while we have them both.
I for one hate how they played Poolman last year and I think if played regularly with better partners he could be very good!! |
