The argument could be made that the Toronto Maple Leafs never fell from being the most popular franchise in the city of Toronto, but a significant number of observers proclaimed after the Leafs last place finish in 2016 that they had been matched or superseded by the Toronto Blue Jays and Raptors for popularity.

Nope

I think there was a slight shift during that 2015 playoff run by the Jays

A Torontonian, an American and a Newfoundlander are involved in a grisly crime and are all sentenced to death. The executioner told them that they would each get to choose the method by which they would die.

Their choices were: lethal injection, electric chair or by hanging.

The American was afraid of needles and didn’t want to be hanged. The American chose the electric chair.

He sat in the chair and they pulled the switch and nothing happened. The executioner said that if this happens a second time that he could go free.

They tried a second time and again nothing happened so they set him free.

The guy from Toronto was also afraid of needles and didn’t want to be hanged so he too chose the electric chair.

Once again, the chair didn’t work and he was free.

Next it was the Newfoundlander’s turn to pick how he was to be executed.

He said "I'm afraid of needles, the electric chair won't work so you're going to have to hang me".

People definitely supported and followed the Jays during their playoff run yes. But to suggest, as Mike did, that it was a movement from the Leafs to the Jays/Raptors, and not in addition too, is incorrect. Toronto will always be a Leafs first city. On top of them, people will also follow the Raps, Jays and TFC. Not in spite of.

I don't think it was a " movement" in the sense that people stopped cheering for the Leafs. I think that the moves made by Anthopolous, showed Jays fans that they were all in and that raised the excitement. Bringing in Price, and Tulo with Donaldson having an mvp season definitely increased interest levels. Causing a shift.

Isn't 10 pounds of semen the equivalent to one of Hoho's hats?

I think the point he is making is that even if the Jays or Raptors gain more interest from fans or create more excitement in the fans they have, they never have and never will actually surpass the Leafs when it comes to fan support. Mike's blog suggested they had eclipsed the Leafs for a few years, which just isn't true.

There was less reason to be excited about the Leafs and more reason to be excited about the other sports teams, but there were still more people paying attention to the Leafs during that time.

Hell, the Leafs being poopty didn't stop people talking about them on hockeybuzz and debating on whether Matt Frattin was as good as Kadri, making jokes about Mike Brown's stache (basically copying Chuck Norris jokes), or posting tribute videos of up and comers like Victor Stalberg or Christian Hanson. (Admittedly the stuff I just mentioned is from before 2016, but still, I think you get the point.)

The Leafs were and always will be #1 in Toronto.

So you're saying your hat should be more than 10 pounds?

No. To get a new box, you have to trade in 10 pounds of semen inside used condoms.

Oh so I’ve heard...

I have no clue who any of these basketball players are.. (other than LeBron James of course who I have heard of). I don't watch basketball or care about it.. But this trade seems to be a big thing on twitter

Basketball, the sport, is good. The NBA is terrible. Needs a hard cap, because the players have no loyalty to their teams (and vice-versa), so they just (frank) off and play with their buddies half the time.

Kawhi warming up to playing on the raptors.
He'll be fine.

JT and Kawhi in one summer. Nice job MLSE!!!
Now if we can get the Jays back to being respectable.
It will be sweet....give a it a year or two. Which if Kawhi leaves next year, then the raps will be in full rebuild.

Ah damn.

The player movement in the NBA is great.
Every off season, something crazy happens.

Agreed. They all go for the easy Ring. It's a joke. No parity in the league whatsoever.

True, but the season itself sucks and is almost pointless. You know who is going to play in every conference finals almost every year and can usually pick who will be in the finals every year.

It's a strange sport in my opinion. If you have a top 5 or 10 player, you're 80% of the way there. Just one player. You can't touch said player when he's trying to score otherwise you'll be punished.

As you mentioned guy's just pick where they wanna play, when you want to tank you tank harder than Peter Horachek could ever imagine, the East general seem pointless minus the Cavs, and God bless them, but there's literally no point of Toronto ever entering a team (and it's not the management's fault.

Pretty much.

Plus it's all 3 pointers now; high risk, high reward.

I miss the big men getting physical in the paint.

Man, the Argos get a bad rap in this city or the rock lacrosse team.
