But atleast hes still in the NHL and his team wanted him. - poisondhearts37
Or his bridge kept him in the league for 1 more year, and because hes on a bridge his team can swallow it for 1 more year. Kind of like that sammy guy a couple hours south of Edmonton.
I guess we should see... will Bennett be in the swiss league as quickly as Nail to the KHL, or will he become anything more than Nail. Either way, both duds. |

If you don't get caught up in his point production: Bennett is an awesome player to have around. He plays like a bulldog. Hits hard, pisses off the other team and beats up Jacob Trouba.
Yak sponged up top 6/powerplay minutes and was good for a trade request around February every year. He actually made the Oilers worse by demanding high value minutes then wasting them.
But hey lazy fans often just look at stats and think that's the full summary of a player's value. |

Not many responses to this post. Odd for an Oilers post, with so many fans all over the world. Perhaps the blogger covered the topic so thoroughly there is nothing more to say.
Personally, I would like to see more pot-stirring articles to generate buzz and conversation like:
1. Possible trade destinations for Lucic, including logical players coming back given cap both teams cap constraints; Come up with five best options.
2. Where will the oilers finish this winter season?
3. Are the Flames better than the Oilers?
4. How can the Oilers fit Karlsson under the cap?
5. Is Toronto better than the Oilers? Is Tavares/Matthews better than McDavid/Draisaitl?
6. If we had to come up with a name other than "Oilers" today - what would that name be?
7. Do fans still love the orange jerseys? And why did the 16/17 darker orange - more burnt orange, turn into a more light pastel orange in 17/18?
8. What would you do if you were the GM of the Oilers for a day and could make five plausible trades? Would you make any?

Yak was never given top 6 minutes. He was consistently put on the 3rd line until he earned top 6 minutes and proved he could play in both zones. Which he never proved so he remained on the 3rd line. Yak averaged 14:42 a game while in Edmonton. Bennett averaged 14:51. Care to try again on that one? And yak never made a trade demand. His former agent made 1 claim saying that if they didnt intend to use him in a top 6 role that maybe it would be in their best interest to trade him to somewhere that would.
But I am not here to defend Yak. He is a bust. Such as Bennett is too. But some flames fans seem to think he still has 4th oa value. |

1. Preferably the sun, but anywhere for anyone with an AAV under 2.5 would also be acceptable.
2. They’ll finish 3rd in the Pacific behind the Ducks and Sharks. This’ll be largely due to McDavids 125 point season and Talbots Vezina caliber performance in a contract year.
3. Not till they get a better goalie.
4. They can’t. He’ll cost too much to acquire and too much to retain. Don’t even (frank)ing think about it Chiarelli.
5. Toronto is better, but McDavid/Draisaitl is better than Matthews/Tavares.
6. The Edmonton Larssons, praise be unto him.
7. Personally I like the new jerseys. Haven’t a clue about part two of your question.
8. 5 trades!? No. But I would entertain the idea of sending Nuge and pieces to Montreal for Gallagher and pieces. |

1) Lucic for Eriksson
2) They will nab the 8th seed and squeek into the playoffs.
3) Nope... we own those female doges.
4) Trading Russel, Lucic and Sekera for Karlsson
5) I think Toronto has a better team but id still take McDavid and Drai over Tavares and Matthews.
6) Oinking for Oil (that's for you Schwein)
7) This has something to do with Rutts an ginger pride or some poop.
8)Dig up pictures of Bergevin with a goat and trade Lucic for Shaw.

The Edmonton Oinkers.
Bergevin would probably do that deal anyway. Would you do Nuge and Lucic for Gallagher and Shaw? 12 mill out, 7.65 mill in. No clauses on Gallagher or Shaw either. |

Eakins thought Yak was a future Selke winner and played him in the bottom six and overplayed Jultz. |

If you and Wreckage didn't notice the minutes he got in the top 6 then you must be kids. I loved that era for the Oilers and watched every game. He got top 6 and powerplay until he started slumping. Once he was put on line 3 he female doged to his agent and the dude flew to Edmonton and threatened a public trade request. Yak was back in the top 6 within a few days.
Later in his time with the Oilers he got stuck at the bottom and stayed there. Two public trade requests didn't work.
I guess if you're dumb enough to be a season ticket holder on HockeyBuzz you are probably dumb enough to not pay attention to player usage. |

Seeing as you talk shìt every offseason-December then dissappear from this site once the Oilers start losing, it's understandable that you would fail to hear about his very public trade request that came prior to the deadline of his final year in Edmonton.
Here's an interview with his agent about it:

Those shots in the top six were a few games every October. Quit acting like he monopolized all the sweet minutes and took opportunities away from other players. It’s Hyperbole at its finest with you all the time. Get a new Schlick. |

I didn't say he monopolozed anything. He played behind Eberle on the depth chart. It was all season though.. Im sure most Oil fans have tuned the late season of of those years out.
Gifting him opportunity without demanding both defensive and offensive accountability what turned him in to a bust was my point. |

That was the complete opposite of what Eakins did with him. Are you that daft? |
