A lot of times shutdown/grinder types are former scorers who just couldn't translate their scoring and decided to go all in on defensive aspects of their game.

its why trying to draft those guys, like some teams do, rarely ever works out because their skill ceiling is junior or AHL depth.

points aren't the be all and end all, but they are a decent measure of general puck ability at lower levels. and probably the best one available until micro-stat tracking makes it way there.

Go to like any US/Canada WJHC team from like 6+ years ago. Its neat to see how many of these top scorers/super potential players have just turned into grinders and depth players.

All true. Jr doesn’t translate into Pro.
Snipers tend to be ok. Skating & hockey IQ & work ethic are about the only things that can be determined. From there idk but i do like Hughes & EP. Brock is a sniper & will continue to be.
