Pretty interesting listen. They definitely had Hughes and Woo higher on their lists

Wow I know this isn't a Nucks issue but just heard Trouba wants 7mil/per and the Jets are countering with 4mil?

Trouba only had 24 pts is he worth 7mil??

Benning mic'd at the draft

https://twitter.com/Canuc...19990295742590976/video/1

Further confirmation that they were going to take Hughes even if Zadina was there and that they were targeting Woo for the 2nd round from the start. A few interesting bits in the later rounds as well.

He plays a shutdown role for the Jets and doesn't get PP1 time, but yeah, I don't think he's worth 7M yet but he's definitely worth more than 4M.

He's worth closer to 7M than 4M though lol

true but that's a lot of cash for 25-30 pts per year. Does Trouba bring other intangilbles that make him worth that much?

Anything around $6M would be appropriate IMO.

Well yeah, aren't most teams drafting players they have ranked higher than their actual draft spot? Logic would suggest so.

Unless the draft plays out exactly like their own list, and they're stuck with drafting players they have ranked right at their draft position. Odds of that happening once you get past the first few picks of the draft are pretty damn low.

He's a physical shutdown Dman that skates well and certainly can get the puck out of his own zone. I think if he was PP1 he'd score 40+ points.

I'd say he's worth 6-7 at this point.

Oh for sure I don't follow Trouba that much but the Jets are my second team so maybe I should pay more attention...lol

Clearly they pick by committee too, just shows how few of these decisions really come down to one guy.

I should have said “way” higher. They were clearly ecstatic so Hughes wasn’t ranked 5th or 6th and Woo May have been in the early 20’s

It sure seems like Brackett is running things. So he is responsible for our bad picks and trades. Fire Brackett and promote GM genius Benning

Yeah, I'm pretty Benning has basically implied that Hughes was 3rd on their draft board. He had him over Zadina.

I think part of the excitement with Woo was because he filled the weakest spot of their prospect pool, RHD. Might not mean they had him ranked in the early 20's. Maybe just the late mid or late 20's, but couple that with the need he fills, they were pumped.

Who knows though, Wood being ranked in the 20-24 range for them wouldn't surprise me at all either. I'm sure every team's rankings list is drastically different from Bob's consensus list.

Ya agreed re. Woo. We could have won the 3rd pick and selected Hughes. A lot more satisfying getting him at 7 lol. Interesting to think about that possibility.

Although it sounds like they had a center highly ranked as well. So maybe Hughes was 4 on their list. We will never know

Seriously though, every fan should watch that video. Shows you that the GM almost solely relies on his scouting staff(mainly his head scout) after the first round lol.

He was asking Brackett what school Madden is going to, I highly doubt Benning has actually even watched him play in-person. Brackett just gives him tidbits about the top prospects available on his list and Benning makes the final call. Like Brackett tossed out the idea of drafting the top goalie on their board instead of Madden, but Benning wanted a forward with that pick instead of another goalie.

Plus Brackett is the one deciding if he wants to trade down or not lol

Also sounds like Benning was getting some poopty offers to trade down from the 2nd and 3rd round lol

his job as head scout is to know everything about every player that has been scouted. JB has done that job in the past, but as GM doesn't and shouldn't have to have done the same prep... that's what you pay a head scout for

I wonder how many more players on their list could they have gotten with more picks?
