Here’s the way I think the pp units shake out. I think Coots and Patrick will be playing monster minutes at ES and Coots may very well lead the teams forwards in SH TOI too. So, with that in mind:
PP1
Giroux
Voracek
Simmonds
JVR
Ghost
PP2
Konecny
Sanheim
Patrick
Coots
Provorov - BiggE
Everyone is looking at it totally wrong. I would put Lehtera on PP1, the other team would be so confused he would be open all the time. |

Then Coots would be the guy on PP2 still a better lineup than last year. JvR changes the PP units for the better. It's one thing I really want to see this coming season. I'm thinking instead of pretty much 1:30 and 0:30 we can see 1:15 and 0:45 ice time. It's not huge but it's a difference. - dragonoffrost
I personally would not change the PP ice time. |

This seems likely
Jvr repkacing Couts on the first unit
That 2nd group has serious potential
Patrick should be in the Giroux spot, left half wall and run the PP through him

All kidding aside, I think he is among the league leaders this year and ends up right around the 26 minutes per game neighborhood - BiggE
If Provorov played on the top PP unit he would without a doubt be near or at the top. That is what keeps him lower |

That angle depends on JvR. In Philly, when he wanted to, he was damn near impossible to get off the puck. He could drive the net and create chances by himself. If he's on a line with a guy like Frost, he needs to be the guy who takes charge and not the guy who would coast around the perimeter. - jmatchett383
I completely agree. The main question is - has he matured enough where you can give him this assignment. I'd be willing to trade off minutes to get a higher percentage of effective minutes.

Hi Bill,
I personally think Frost is a year away, but let's assume for a minute he does make the team. Everyone assumes you play him at 3C, but I believe the team would be better served going with the following:
G - Couturier - TK
JVR - Frost - JV
Lindblom - Patrick - Simmonds
Here is my rationale:
1. Frost is more of a setup man, which will pair nicely with JVR. Patrick will likely score more, which brings more balance to the lineup.
2. Though JVR and to a some extent, Voracek are not prototypical power forwards, they do bring size to the line which would help the slighter Frost.
3. While Frost is capable as a 200 ft. player, Patrick is stronger defensively overall, especially when paired with Lindblom. He also brings more size/strength to the 3rd line, which is important. Patrick is strong on FO which is especially important in a 3C. Consider he was north of 50% in year 1, whereas G didn't cross 50% until year 3 and Coots year 6).
4. Playing Frost with JVR allows you to shelter both players defensively, and you can give them more O zone starts.
5. Lindblom and Patrick had chemistry together by the end of the season, whereas Voracek seemed not to gel with Patrick as much.
I don't want to hinder Patrick's growth, and ultimately pairing him with a highly skilled forward like Farabee will even further balance the lines. But I think this would be a strong, balanced lineup should Frost surprise us all and make it difficult to send him down.
Thoughts? - TheGreat28
Just play Raffl with Voracek .Like you said Frost is not ready but he might be 18/19 season Lindblom. Not starting the season but finishing it after a call-up
Any news or rumor about Steve Mason ?

It's even more impressive when you consider that he does these push-ups with Andrew MacDonald sitting on his back. |

I think that the PP units will be as fine as long as they remember to SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!! immediately after they get the puck, no matter where they are on the ice. |

A team's progress doesn't necessarily need to be on an arithmetic line. I think this is the year the team makes a large leap forward towards contention. - Sinisalo4vr
Before the signing of JvR, I felt we were a bubble team. After the signing of JvR, I feel like we’re a legitimate playoff team. It’s possible we take leaps forward. I just look at Pitt and watch how the entire team receives superstar treatment and I believe this fact overcomes a lot. Letang cross checking Giroux the crease and gets nothing for it. Couturier blatantly gets tripped that leads to a goal. It’s been going on for over a decade now. |

On pk he’s the only D guy I think that reliably can clear the puck
Amac and Hagg had good seasons but I don’t think they were very effective on Pk
Gudas and Manning were bad
Ghost shouldn’t see pk time
Morin is out until late winter and then who knows
I guess hope for improvement from Hagg and Sanheim and the pk forwards?
I’m pessimistic here regarding the pk |

They missed the division lead by 7 points last year with the goaltending they got? Getting 2-3 wins more from Mrazek they are contending last year. - dragonoffrost
7 points is a lot in a playoff hunt or a division hunt. |

1 year for 650,000 compared to a guy who just got bought out and may still want a decent contract. I'm not surprised. Not because of skill or want, but the situation. When someone gets an injury, Mason will be on the top to get a call, if not sooner. |

MacDonald is an effective penalty killer because he is solid in his positioning and coverage and blocks shot. The problem is that he doesn't belong on the top PK pairing. He belongs on a secondary unit. |
