I haven't really seen many people saying he's going to make it. I mean, I hope he does, but I know it's not all that likely.
- Ftown19125

A number of people have high hopes for Frost to make the team at third line center. I’ve seen the posts also. I think it’s asking a lot but I was wrong about Konecny when he made the team. Winger and center are two different expectations.

I’m not convinced of contending for a division title when we share a division with the last two Stanley Cup winners. Could we hang in there? Sure. Can we win the division? I doubt it because that would suggest we’re also contending for a Cup.

Bill, Hextall has since come out and said he misspoke about Elliot's usage this season. He said he WOULD like for him to start the majority of games. Not wouldn't.

May want to correct that in your article.

A team's progress doesn't necessarily need to be on an arithmetic line. I think this is the year the team makes a large leap forward towards contention.

Can't fix the page because the poster who broke it "deleted" the post instead of editing it. So it's there in the background messing things up. Sorry.

If you ever post a link and realize you think better of it, edit the post to delete the link, don't delete the post.

Thank you.

Just giving an alternate view. If you didn't like it. Scroll away

Teams improve, teams decline.

The addition of JvR alone is a huge plus for the Flyers. They should now be able to ice two useful power play sets. Not play unit one for 1 minute 30 seconds and then just kill the last 30 seconds themselves. It also gives them 2 full scoring lines and the chance to have a third if kids can make an impact on line 3 with Simmonds.

Losing Manning and Fillpula were upgrades by subtraction. Both filled a role but needed to be replaced with more skill if this team is to take a step forward.

Goalie may be a very important piece but it's not the piece you absolutely need. Look at the cup winners since 2000, did anyone see Niemi or Ward winning a cup at the start of those seasons? There may even be others that were shocking cup winning goalies. I won't add Murray as the Pens were fine with Fleury really.

I don't see the ice time rotation for the PP units changing much. Until a PP QB emerges for the second unit I think they'll continue to struggle.

I'm very excited to see how frost pans out. My gut tells me that unless he really looks overwhelmed at camp, that he's going to make the squad. Tk wasn't very big when he made the squad and held his own generally. I won't expect more than say 20 pts from frost but I think that may be the plan
- Hextall271

Expecting 20 points from Frost contradicts thinking he's ready and is going to make the squad. I think without a doubt that the plan is to send Frost back to juniors unless he convinces them otherwise. I think the chances of that are remote. One more thought, most fans will think he is ready and criticize the Flyers when he's sent back to juniors.

I think Provorov could QB the 2nd PP. Ghost is best utilized on the top unit because of what he brings offensively. That being said, Provorov clearly has a high offensive ceiling as he showed last season, and that was with limited PP time. All that said, unless/until he shows whether or not he could handle QBing lengthy PPs, I don't think anyone could say for sure if he can or can't handle it.

Then again, since he'd also be a top PK player and getting high 5v5 matchups, he'd be playing half of every game.

If I were the coach it would be very hard to resist the temptation to play Provorov 30 minutes a game. I think he could be PP 1 or 2 QB as well.

He might be able to develop that over time but based on previous seasons, Provorov is an average at best PP QB. I think the better hope is Patrick.

Between Konecny, JVR/Coots, Patrick/Simmonds, and Sanheim, I think they should definitely improve. They basically added 2 players to the PP mix that they didn't have last year.

I think they will try Jake on the second unit.I give Jake credit, Hak changes his line-mates on the reg and Jake always seems to create.

There isn't a single NHL defenseman last season who averaged close to 30 minutes a game. Doughty led at 26:50 per game.

But they made that great trade during the draft where they crushed that young man's soul because they got the first round pick for 4 years from now because that guaranteed that they would get him.

I'm very confused right now.

At least we know The Process was a complete success since LeBron James allowed them to speak to him mere hours before he went to a terrible LA team.

I haven't seen him given any significant time with a competent PP unit during his first 2 NHL years where I feel confident to make a call either way.

Being on a less-than-stellar PP2 for the Flyers the past 2 seasons means that most of his PP shifts start off in the defensive zone after a clear by the PK team, and there is also usually 35-40 seconds left, meaning that there is really only one chance to set up on the PP before the time expires. I don't expect those last 2 points to change, but if he's playing with guys like JvR/Simmonds/Patrick as opposed to guys like Raffl/Weal/Filppula, you may see more success out of him.

I thought about that too, we need a lefty over opposite G. JvR and Coots are lefty but they should be in front of the net and in the slot. Ghost could cycle over there but then we have a forward playing the "D" position, which would put us at risk for SH goals.

I think we'll end up seeing:

PP1: G-Coots-JVR-Jake-Ghost
PP2: TK-Patrick-Simmer-Lindblom/Weal/Sanheim-Provy

I actually want Jake playing the point opposite Ghost, similar to how Malkin is used on the Penguins' PP. But they seem to like him over by the circle.
