Matthews / Tavares / Marner
Rielly / Karlsson
Are you (frank)ing kidding me? Murderous PP.
People are hating on it because he's a Senator and they don't want to give up Nylander and because I like the idea but the reality is, if Karlsson was traded to the Leafs tomorrow, he'd be the best defenseman the Leafs have had since Salming. If not Karlsson now, where the hell are they going to get anybody even remotely close to him? It's such a rare opportunity, they have to jump on it. - Unholy_Goalie
Since Salming??? He'd be their best defencemen ever |

add karlsson sure... but move gardiner if so - Dozzer
Absolutely agree. Nylander, Gardiner and a 1st for Karlsson. Outbids every other team out there, makes Ottawa less reluctant to deal within the division because Nylander and Gardiner help them out of a lottery pick and the Leafs clear two guys who will cost a lot of money to re-sign that they can give to Karlsson and reinforce their very weak right side with one of the best defensemen in the league. |

Pietrangelo would be decent, I won’t lie. The question is, is Pietrangelo> Nylander/Gardiner? - dwoo33
By a country mile. He’s better than Reilly, now ask yourself, would you trade Rielly for Nylander and Gards ? |

C'mon, Karlsson would be amazing - Arctic_AARDVARK
I honestly REALLY don't think he's that good.
I don't think he's worth $11mm X 8.
Especially when it cost us Nylander, Kap/Brown/Sparks and a 1st.
NO. Absolutely not. Fcuk that!
My opinion. |

Yes because he's better than Gardiner and losing Nylander is mitigated by the fact that they added Tavares. |

Don’t need a guy like Karlsson with the forward group they have. Defense by committee. - Steven_Seagull
We don't need another offensive defenseman, plus he also costs far too much. Pass. - TrashPanda

Ok so you're thinking of Jordan Peterson. He's far, far, far from a dumbass. He's just not an expert on that diet. He was speaking anecdotally because it worked for him and his daughter. There's other episodes with experts on that topic. - Unholy_Goalie
You could tell when he was talking about how it made all her pain go away and whatnot that he paid very little detail to facts and just wanted to please his daughter. Joes asks his if he got his bloodwork done he says, no. lol.. He even said it make him super sick for a month lollll.... Joe talks about that diet sometimes and says good things about the people who are on it, or about the results, but hes not sold. |

Hey, so if your boss was gonna pay you $320 for an 8 hour day, or $350 for a 10 hour day you would gladly work the 10? - HonkyTonkMan

I already do a 10 hour day.
But even if my boss offered me $350 for that day, regardless of how many hours....
I take a (frank)ing dump on his desk and tell him to (frank) his hat! True story.
Word of advice...

ok you have been drinking.... all that for 17 more P from the back end... and Karlsson is too little an upgrade in the D zone to make it worth that price |

Maybe I'm just a solid Nylander fan and cannot understand why the guy gets no respect. Back to back strong seasons. I can see him moving into elite territory. Not a far stretch |

I’d prefer Pietro over Karlsson to be honest. Less offense (don’t need it) better defense (desperately needed). Matthews can probably work well with a couple bums like Brown/Hyman (e la Crosby). Kapanen could then join Kadri/Johnsson on the third line. Johnsson can move up when Marleau retires. Lots of winger prospects like Gundstrom on the way up.

All of it.
The Leafs do need an offensive defenseman to replace Gardiner. He's a UFA. They do need a top pairing RHD. They can afford him. He is worth it. He does improve the team.
There's a reason why defenders like Pesce don't get paid like Karlsson and it's because their "defensiveness" leaves them stuck in their own zone chasing the game, chasing the play and rarely controlling it. A player like Karlsson dominates a game from the blueline. He takes the puck and through his ability to dictate the flow of the game, doesn't have to spend the majority of it chasing his opponents.
This stupid notion that the Leafs need "defensive defensemen" is outdated and ineffective. Having a bunch of guys who just chase the opponent in their own zone isn't what works anymore. |

Alfiesalad is talking about how Karlsson is the greatest D in the NHL and your saying Karlsson over Gardiner is barely and upgrade on D.

You need some kinda of grit in the NHL.. Nylander is soft as butter. |

That's the thing... Shannahan has built a high octane offensive team, why gut it for someone you don't need?

Karlsson on a down year, on a lottery team while Hoffman's psycho wife is harassing him and his wife about their stillborn child still outperformed Gardiner's career year.
At his best, with the Leafs offensive weapons in front of him, he scores 80-90 easily, every year for the next few years. Karlsson is a huge upgrade. Consistently on the ice for 120-130 goals for and only 85-90 against. He's way, way, way better than Gardiner. Literally double the career points. |
