I finally quit on the Leafs because one GM after another refused to build through the draft. I am impressed the way Shanahan finally turned the insanity around.

Now I am not sure the Tavares signing is going to provide the long term benefits (playoff success) that are projected. He will certainly offset the loss of JVR's and Bozak's scoring output. But, I did not see a Leaf team that needed scoring. Perhaps upgrades on D are still to come?

Even without Karlsson I dont think Tampa would be chewed up and spit out by the Leafs over the next 4 years. I think both teams are good and it will be awesome hockey.

If Yzerman doesn't get Karlsson it would not shock me if he goes out and gets Parayako (this keeps getting talked about here in tampa) or maybe gets Trouba or Dumba. Yzerman is going to add a Right Defender before the season, I think this is almost certain to happen.

Ek's rumour is that the Karlson deal has to be done by friday or Tampa bay is making other arrangements. Trouba's arbitration hearing is on friday.... just saying. Write it up Ek.

I mean...every leafs fan has bee praying for that for quite some time. Not much available though on UFA. Doughty stated he wouldn't play here. Near impossible to trade for a guy like that too. Though somehow Hamilton gets traded...not sure how we weren't in on that one...IMO, that was our best option to upgrade the D and we missed it. Love the Tavares signing, that's some impressive depth on C.

I don’t know if I believe there is an actual deadline but I do believe that after a certain point, Yzerman will move on and look to acquire a defenseman to improve the team. If Ottawa waits too long, teams will need to make decisions and move on.
