I can't see that happening to be honest, trading for him works out for Tampa because they can move money out to make room for him. Just trying to take on a Karlsson sized contract $11-$12 per season is basically impossible. Tampa will have enough cap trouble as is without adding in Karlsson. - Maverick1818
Uh, so what you are saying is that they can move out money now... but it is impossible to move it out later.

Sam Bennett on the trade block, EK you are smacking a hornets nest with this one. I brought up the idea of Calgary trading the under achiever in a recent Flames blog and the Calgary fans all went snakey on me. Better check underneath your seat before you start your car going forward. - Holy_Makinaw99
They will trade him to MTL and like it |

Please tell me the one with the apple on his head was Uggy! - .OHOH.
no no no no no, the fact that he is on the ice for more even strength goals against than for, is misleading. He just had a whole career of bad luck where the other team scored just as he was stepping off the ice. |

If Sam Bennett is the answer, you are asking the wrong question.

Much easier to move it out now then later and get it all done in on move, then multiple with a deadline.
Tampa is going to have to do some major cap dumps to fit everyone in. Plus they have players coming up who are going to be looking for huge raises. |

You do know he's going to be in the HOF right? He's just as valuable as Doughty and by far ahead of every D int he NHL in terms of offensive. As well as his defensive numbers are fine. You don't get two Norris's by being bad at defense lol |

Anyone who thinks Jake Gardiner is compareable to Karlsson has no business ever talking about hockey again. Karlsson had one bad year on a team that self destructed. That's one bad year in 10 years |

Or maybe Ottawa doesn't want to settle for a cap dump and a pick, Tampa is probably just being stingy and won't give up Sergachev. - Conquest
If that's remotely true, good on Dorion for holding his ground. He has to get this deal right, the rest of the franchise's future and plans depend on it. |

So when Karlsson is playing for Tampa and finishes the year +20-30, does that mean he learned how to play defense finally? Maybe, just a weird theory, maybe Ottawa is a bad team. I know 30 other teams who would take Karlsson. |

Or they can wait a year and risk another team acquiring him. - LJBoltsfan

That's my point, no team would be stupid enough to not want Karlsson on their team as Aetherial was suggesting |

Agreed. People are quick to forget a season of Karlsson has more value to Ottawa than whats being offered. Sens dont have a first. Its in their best interest to keep him and try to have a decent season and get away from that 1st overall pick. The deal has ro be substantial to have ottawa throw in the towel for the season |

This was never do-able in one move and a 3-way trade is not one move. |

Tbh, that 1st rounder is in another conference - so other than pride, I'm not sure it really matters. I also sense that this is Dorion's opportunity to save face on some of the bad deals he's made. He has a bit of ground to cover. |

Yeah he is in a tough spot. He has to get a good deal done but his leverage and potential trade partners is minimal.
