To be clear, I'm in for hockey. If it's just a tailgating thing, nah.

I think the last time I played hockey with sneakers and a ball people were talking about this 14 year old Lindros kid.
- Glak18

Shame about him, retiring in his second season due to concussions.

That’s the thing. I think you’re bound to get more people if you just make it a tailgate with maybe a quick optional game in the lot.

There's one in Washington Lake Park is South NJ. I like skating and shooting around there, but it's a bit unkept.

Most rinks in NJ are a little off anymore. Kids hockey isn't what it was.

Would people prefer earlier, as in October? Or later as in April. I’d probably lean to the later.

Make sure you step on the blade for a great curve

Hold it over the stove burner first to heat it up so the wicked curve stays

Maybe I am one of those "snobs", but I like hockey with some form of skating. Although I see your point of not ostracizing people who are unable to skate.

Easiest way would be an outdoor sport court rink, people can skate and foot it. I know there was a rink in Whitpain, PA (near Blue Bell) I used to play at. Had benches, boards, glass and stadium seating. Also had a small surface for the small kids to play. Eating, watching and playing.

I am sure there has to be others like it around the area.

The mylec plastic takes a while to ignite. It needs to be there for a minute to get the heat enough to make the bend permanent if I recall.

great idea, if it is April, I usually fly up to visit my dad around that time. It would be fun to rent the ice, Tailgate required...

You don't lay it on the burner, just hold it over to heat it up to soften it a bit

That's interesting, I remember they were pretty thick blades. I just never thought of trying that. I remember I use to be able to curve balls like soccer players do when kicking it. Always felt bad for the goalies.

I used to bend them pretty far. I bet they probably would have been illegal in organized leagues.

I’m going to go with April. Will throw out the idea here and there over the next few months to gauge ongoing interest.
