All reports were the Orioles wanted prospects and reports are that that is exactly what the Dodgers are sending them. Konecny/Sanhiem does not compute in that regard.

There's also the part where Karlsson has a long injury history and Machado doesn't, and is younger to boot.

The dodgers are reportedly sending a top 3 prospect in Diaz (guess I should have said Frost instead of Sanhiem in that regard), and the Orioles wanted Eflin (similar to Konecny- player on the big club who contributes now and has the potential to contribute more for years to come). One would reasonably conclude the Dodgers want a similar player coming back with Diaz as well- one that will contribute now and a prospect who will contribute down the line during this literally franchise altering trade. All for a rental who is absolutely no guarantee to re-sign and has said he wants to test FA.

It is actually pretty comparable. I never want to see a package traded for a rental when that exact same package could bring back a good-great player with multiple years left. The value isn't there. Wait for FA.

EDIT: Rosenthal reporting Diaz is the centerpiece and believes LA has to sweeten the pot more. Their 2nd best hitting prospect behind Verdugo and their 4th overall prospect based on MLB Pipeline. Lot of similarities to the Phillies reportedly willing to include Medina. If this is the case, perhaps the O's simply likes Diaz better than Medina.

I think it's unfair to rip on the Phils here tbh. They went after him hard with a similar offer (again if reports are accurate). Right?
